RIP was a Spanish punk group born in Mondragón, Basque Country, at the beginning of the 80s. Coming from the band that was Doble Cero, they began to meet and create the concept of RIP, one of the first punk bands that existed in the Iberian Peninsula. They are considered one of the most influential groups in punk and hardcore punk in the country. Some of his most popular songs are Revolución, Anti-military, Dead World, Condenado, Enamorado of death and Police terrorism.

History

The band was born in 1980. Originally, they performed under the name Doble Cero, and was founded by the brothers Jul and Txerra Bolinaga, along with Portu, who was also the singer on bass. Then, in 1981, Mallabi joined them as a regular singer, and in this way they continued for two years performing various concerts. By 1983, Mallabi, who was doing mandatory military service, was temporarily replaced by the group's manager, Karlos "Mahoma" Agirreurreta, who after a fight with Mallabi, when he returned, became the band's definitive singer. Already consolidated as such with the definitive formation—Jul, Txerra, Portu and Mahoma—they were redefined as RIP.

Since 1983, the group independently produced several cassettes with their recitals recorded live, as a way of portraying the band's concerts as they were, until in 1984, the Spansuls Records label published Zona Especial Norte, RIP's first EP and official release, shared with the group Eskorbuto.

In 1985 RIP participated as the first band at the Euskal Rock festival, in Barcelona, on November 29.

In 1987 they published their only album, No te moves, with the Basati Diskak label. Shortly after, they separated in 1988 due to internal differences, but they met occasionally, as happened in 1991, to the surprise of many, at a music festival organized by Arrasate Press, in the town of Mondragón.

Finally, in September 1994, they gave a reunion concert, which was released on CD the following year as HIESari aurre egiten!! Zuzenean, which in Spanish means Facing AIDS!! Live, with almost all their songs and covers by other British groups.

In February 1997, Portu, the group's bassist, unexpectedly passed away. He was replaced by his brother Xabi, who was in charge of playing at the concerts until the band broke up. Later, he was part of the group Gatillazo.

Later, they participated in the Eskorbuto tribute album Tren con destiny al inferno in 2000, covering the song The moment has arrived.

In 2001 they recorded the song Me caga en la politica for the compilation Gaztetxeak martxan!, which was carried out by the Gasteizko Gaztetxea for its thirteenth anniversary.

In 2002, the brothers Jul and Txerra Bolinaga formed the group The Kagas, together with Evaristo Premos and Jon Zubiaga, with which they published a single album, titled New heroes of rock.

In 2004, the band The Meas was created with the same components, and, like its predecessor, they only released one album, Busciendo la vida.

In 2003, Karlos and Txerra participated in the documentary Música en las venas; Shortly after, Karlos Mahoma died in October at the age of 44, and with him the history of the group ended.

On November 15, 2014, Jul Bolinaga (former guitarist of the band) died when he collapsed on stage during a concert with the group The Potes, at the gaztetxe in Bergara.
