Richard Z. Kruspe
Richard Zven Kruspe (Wittenberge, German Democratic Republic, June 24, 1967) is a German musician, guitarist for the German band Rammstein and the New York band Emigrate, in which he also sings in English.
Biography
He was born in Wittenberge, East Germany, present-day state of Brandenburg. He was named Sven at birth, but later changed his name to Richard, as he believes that everyone should be able to change their name if they wish. His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother remarried; Kruspe did not get along with his stepfather. The family moved to the village of Weisen when Kruspe was young. Due to his poor relationship with his stepfather, Kruspe often ran away from home in his preteen years, sleeping on park benches. He later got into wrestling as a way to channel his anger, and received professional training as a cook.
At the age of sixteen, Kruspe and some friends visited Czechoslovakia, where he bought a guitar. He had originally planned to sell it as it was very expensive and he thought he could make a good profit from it. However, once he returned to East Germany, a girl he met at a camp asked him to touch her. He told her that he didn't know how to play; However, she continued to insist, so Kruspe began to strum. He recalled, "The more she played, the more excited she was." Something clicked in my head and I realized that girls like boys who play the guitar.' This got him interested in playing guitar and as a result, he began playing every day and night for the next two years.
In 1985, bored with his hometown's apathetic music scene, Kruspe moved to East Berlin and lived on Lychener Straße, where he 'made music all day'. For two years, he lived in an apartment with a drum set and a guitar, and made music alone because he didn't know anyone there. "It was a lonely time," according to Kruspe, but he used it to explore music.
Musical career
On October 10, 1989, before the fall of the Berlin Wall, Kruspe was traveling on the subway. After returning to the surface, he found himself in the middle of a political demonstration. He was hit on the head and arrested just for being there, and jailed for six days. Once out of prison, he decided to leave East Germany. Due to the Eastern Bloc, he entered West Germany through the Hungarian-Austrian border. When the Berlin Wall fell, he returned to East Berlin.
Kruspe's first band, Das Elegante Chaos, was formed in the late 1980s. The band played live with other bands such as First Arsch (in which Till Lindemann was a drummer). In 1989, when Kruspe was 22, the band recorded a few songs; These songs were later released in 2011 on the album Lyrik by Dachboden-Records. Seeking a more independent experience, Kruspe formed Orgasm Death Gimmick, which ran from 1991 to 1993; Orgasm Death Gimmick released three demo tapes and one promotional tape through their label, Wydoks, before disbanding.
During his career, Kruspe also appeared on releases by other bands such as First Arsch. Finally, Rammstein was formed in 1994, when Kruspe, who was living with Oliver Riedel and Christoph Schneider at the time, was looking for a new band to create a new style of music.
Personal life
He has two older sisters and an older brother. Richard married actress Caron Bernstein on October 29, 1999. The ceremony was Jewish and Richard composed the music.[citation needed] He took the name Richard Kruspe-Bernstein during the time their marriage lasted. When they separated in 2004 he recovered the surname 'Kruspe'.
Kruspe's first daughter was born on February 28, 1991 and is called Khira Li Lindemann.[citation needed] She has the last name 'Lindemann' because her mother was previously married to Rammstein vocalist Till Lindemann, whose last name she kept after divorcing him. Kruspe and Khira Li's mother never married. In 1998, Khira Li appeared at the performance of Rammstein's song Tier at Live aus Berlin. She also collaborated on the backing vocals for Spieluhr, from the album Mutter (2001).
On December 10, 1992, their son Merlin Esra Besson was born.
Richard's second daughter and third son, born on September 28, 2011, is named Maxime Alaska Bossieux. Her mother is Margaux Bossieux, her ex-partner (they separated in early 2019). She is the bassist of the punk band "Dirty Mary" and currently in the band Emigrate, in which she also participates as a backup singer.
Since autumn 2005, the guitar manufacturer ESP has been marketing a model called ESP RZK-1 Richard Kruspe Signature.
