Esquerra Republicana del País Valencià was a Valencian and left-wing political group that operated in the territory of what is now the Valencian Community (Spain) during the Second Spanish Republic. It had its most deeply rooted area in the province of Castellón.

History

It was created in Castellón de la Plana in 1934, parallel to the creation of the Republican Left (IR) at the state level, through the merger of Acción Republicana de Castellón, headed by Francisco Casas Sala and Matías Sangüesa and which constitutes the sector majority of the new party, the independent radical socialists followers of Marcelino Domingo de Castellón, and the Republican Valencianists of Grup Valencianista d'Esquerra, led by Cayetano Huguet. The party was part of the state Republican Left. However, the party had an unstable life as a result of the representativeness of the different groups that made up the party in the party's leadership and organs of expression, the relationship with the state party and the greater or lesser Valencianism of the party.

In December 1935, the Valencian sector led by Huguet and Miquel Peña managed to get the state leadership to dismiss Casas Sala, president of the party, and create a manager dominated by the Valencian sector. However, it was soon recovered by the state leadership and in January 1936 Izquierda Republicana was constituted as such in Castellón under the leadership of Casas Sala y Sangüesa with the majority sector of the party. Huguet's Valencianists then transformed what was left of the party into Esquerra Republicana de Castellón.

Shortly after the start of the Civil War, the remaining militants, headed by Huguet, joined the Esquerra Valenciana. as well as in the provincial and municipal councils of Castellón.
