Regional Television of Táchira
Televisora Regional del Táchira: is a regional television channel based in the city of San Cristóbal in the state of Táchira. In addition to Táchira, TRT can be seen in the southern part of Zulia, Barinas, northwest and north of Apure in Venezuela. Its signal can also be seen in Colombia in the Norte de Santander Department and the north of the Arauca Department. It is broadcast on channel six in San Cristóbal, northern area of the Táchira State and on Channel 2 in San Antonio, Ureña and Norte de Santander Department in Colombia.
History
At the beginning of 1983, a group of businessmen from Táchira conceived the idea of promoting a television station.
La Televisora Regional de Táchira, S.A, until mid-March 1984 as a television channel and it was on February 17, 1988, when the Ministry of Transportation and Communications approved the operating license for this new national television. In early 1989, he completed the construction of a broadcasting station located on the Gallinero hill of Palmira. Guásimos Municipality infrastructure necessary to go on air, with the signal of this station it covers a large part of the Televisora del Táchira, some areas of the Apure state, the southern part of the Zulia state, the northern part of the Department of Arauca in Colombia and some areas of the Department of Norte de Santander in Colombia.
On July 24, 1989, it was broadcast on channel 6 as a test signal, multicolor bars identifying the channel, and music. On October 15, 1989 at 8:00 pm (local time) the transmission of delayed images of a soccer match held at the Pueblo Nuevo Sports Center in San Cristóbal. It was Friday, November 24, 1989 at an inaugural gala held at the Luis Hurtado Higuera "Casa Sindical" from the city of San Cristóbal, attended by important personalities of the nation, including former president Carlos Andrés Pérez, when the television station's programming began to be regulated.
Driving to the need to improve the initial coverage, the construction of a second broadcasting station "El Rayo" located in Pedro María Ureña, Táchira state, which came into operation on March 25, 1994, to cover all areas of Norte de Santander in Colombia, the southern part of Lake Maracaibo in Zulia state, the city of Santa Bárbara de Barinas in the state of Barinas, the municipality of Páez in the state of Apure and improve the signal in different towns in Táchira. Controversies
The host of the program, "Café con Azócar", Gustavo Azócar, was arrested on March 6, 2006, by the Táchira metropolitan police after a complaint was filed by Ana Casanova in 2000—who was a prosecutor that year—who had alleged irregularities in the broadcasts of state lottery notices on Radio San Cristóbal (now known as 1060 AM), where Azócar worked as general coordinator. He is considered a political prisoner by the Human Rights Foundation.
In 2012, Congressman Miguel Ángel Rodríguez denounced threats of closure against the channel.
In 2014, the Ministry of Popular Power for Communication and Information and the National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) investigated TRT for being related to acts of violence in the state, as stated by Nicolás Maduro, president of Venezuela.
