Reality Bites

Reality Bites is a 1994 American romantic comedy written by Helen Childress and is the directorial debut of Ben Stiller. It stars Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke and Stiller himself, with the main supporting roles played by Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn. The tape was filmed with locations in Austin and Houston, Texas, over 42 days. The plot centers on Lelaina (Ryder), an aspiring videographer who is working on a documentary called Reality Bites about the lives of her friends (Hawke, Garofalo, and Zahn), and to some degree about herself. Her questions, both documented and not, exemplify some aspects of the careers and lifestyles of the so-called generation X.
