Rancor
The rancor is a huge creature belonging to the fictional Star Wars saga that appears in Episode VI and in various areas of the parallel universe of this saga.
They hail from the planet Dathomir, where the Witches of Dathomir could tame them and use them as riding beasts. They are several meters tall and can take a human being in their hands and swallow it almost without chewing. The thick, muscular hide makes it highly resistant to blasters and most other energy weapons (with a lightsaber it can be beaten, but after several hits).
Luke Skywalker had to face one in Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine, without his lightsaber, using only the bones of other unfortunate beings that were devoured by the animal. Finally the jedi prevailed over the monstrous creature and using a door he mortally wounded it in the neck.
In the game The Force Unleashed, Starkiller, Darth Vader's apprentice, must face various rancors on the planet Felucia, many of them mounted by Felucian shamans.
In Chapter 3 of the series "The Book of Boba Fett" the twins present the protagonist with a rancor calf and his tamer (Danny Trejo) which indicates that they are sentimentally complex creatures.
History
After the Clone Wars, the Rancors were used by the locals of Felucia to defend the planet from Separatists. After that they were used to carry out heavy or agricultural tasks (in some cases also to defend private properties) although there are also specimens that live in freedom.
Types
Bull Rancor: A beast larger than a common Rancor, more aggressive, and greyish in color. From its body come a kind of horns that it uses to charge its prey. They live far from their kind and are very difficult to tame.
Felucian Rancor: A species with brighter colors and easier to domesticate, as they are smaller and more sociable.
Food
Rancors are almost similar to a Sarlacc in that they feed on anything they find (except plants), though they don't take long to digest. As can be seen in its first appearance, this beast needs constant feeding.
Appearances
They appear in Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, in some missions of Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (where a genetically mutated rancor can be seen), in the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, in the mobile game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, and in Jabba's Palace in Episode VI.
