Ragnarok (manhwa)

Ragnarök (Korean: 라그나로크 Ragnarok, lit. "Ragnarök") or Ragnarok Into the Abyss is a manhwa created by the South Korean Lee Myung-Jin and published by Daiwon Culture Industry Inc. Currently, 10 volumes have been published and in Spain it began to be published in April 2006. The subtitle of &# was added. 34;Into the Abyss" to differentiate it from other cartoons with the same name.

The series is primarily based on Norse mythology but was also influenced by various cultures. It falls into the genres of fantasy, action and adventure

Following the success of the manhwa, the popular Korean MMORPG "Ragnarok Online" was created, developed by Gravity Corporation, inspired by various elements of the manhwa without actually being a copy. In turn, it allowed an adaptation of the game into an anime Ragnarok The Animation, to finally give way to multiple browser and mobile phone games with great worldwide success, being today Ragnarok Online Mobile: Eternal Love and Ragnarok Tactics, products that generate great profits. The manhwa is currently on indefinite hiatus due to Le Myung-Jin collaborating with the development of the game.

History

Ragnarok follows the life and adventures of the warrior Chaos, who suffers from amnesia and cannot remember anything for 2 years. He lives in the city of Payon, inhabited by a long lineage of warriors. The latest leader in line to claim the position of village chief is a young woman by the name of Iris Irine, who trains with her close friend Chaos of her to become a leader for her village.

Meanwhile, Fenris Fenrir a powerful witch (Warlock) the reincarnation of the wolf god Fenrir seeks the reincarnation of Balder, who has reincarnated as a mortal human, to cause Ragnarok, during his search he meets Chaos and Iris, joining the your group.

A memory from long ago approaches Payon, the rage of the Valkyrie Sarah, but what relationship does he have with Iris? Where does the rage come from?

Sakray, The Cursed Knight, a mysterious man with terrifying and dangerous power, heads to Payon to quench the bloodlust of his sword, forming an enmity with Chaos and his group, who He faces in volume 9 of the manhwa to free Iris, whom he had kidnapped.

Finally, Lydia, Loki and the elf Queen (very similar to a hunter in the game) join the group. They face multiple challenges, ending the story they must face the mayor of Geffen and an old acquaintance of Loki, who followed them to Geffenia to find the treasure hidden there; while in the Geffen Fenris magic tournament Fenrir continues to fight to achieve his goal, while Chaos and Iris face Sakray.

The manhwa concludes in chapter 10, leaving the story unfinished, but which is complemented by the games Ragnarok Online and Ragnarok Online 2, which take place in the same world, but in the future.

'Hero's Trail' Instances

A group of instances called "Hero's Trail" to play alone or in a group, allowing you to travel through time and space to fight together and against iconic Manhwa characters.

Hero's Trail part 1: consists of the "Faceworm's Nest" and "Sarahs Memories".

"Faceworm Nest" shows one of Chaos and Iris's first adventures in Payon, hunting down the extinct creatures known as the "Faceworm" or "Faces Mask" In the English translation of the manhwa, these creatures are giant snakes that have a jaw on their heads similar to the face of an old person, similar to a mask, with their mouths closed they look like defenseless creatures, but after opening their mouths the jaw moves and the mask revealing the terrible fangs. At the beginning of the manhwa Chaos and Iris are hunting Faceworms to collect the reward of 5000 Zeny. After exterminating some normals, the Queen Faceworm suddenly appears ready to annihilate the murderers of her children.

"Sarahs Memories", tells the past of Sarah Irene, her Father, the death of Sarah's Mother, the kidnapping by Huginn and Muninn the crows of Odin who watched over the world in Norse mythology. This instance explains Sarah's pain and introduces the motive for her revenge and the destruction of the village of Payon.

Hero's Trail part 2 - This is 3 instances. "Ghost Palace", "Geffen Magic Tournament" and 'Devil's Tower'.

"Ghost Palace", narrates the past and tragic origin of the Cursed Knight Sakray, who was a Royal Guard bodyguard of Princess Tiara (or Titania) of whom he was deeply in love. The princess had been betrothed to a Prince and Sakray had to protect her for the marriage to take place, but suddenly the monsters attacked the castle, after which the avatar along with Sakray eliminated the monsters and saved the princess from being attacked, but Sakray is accused of being responsible for which he is unfairly sent to prison, there a voice speaks to him, it is the evil spirit "Thanatos", who offers him a deal to release him, he accepts and goes to see the king, after which he finds his corpse and discovers that the Prince is responsible, but he was not a prince. Sacray defeats him and goes in search of the princess in the prison, but it's too late she's dying. After her death, Sakray ends all the monsters, and the Thanatos sword asks him to fulfill his part of the deal, transmits his powers to him, transforms Sakray into the Cursed Knight who must quench the sword's thirst for blood.

"Geffen Magic Tournament", narrates the adventures of the group of heroes in the capital of magic Geffen, where the magic tournament organized by the mayor of Geffen, where the best magicians in the world will compete for the title of champion, being able to find bandits, ninjas, crusaders, monks, sages, magicians, sorcerers, alchemists among other characters who crave the title, which none expected One of them was the presence of Fenrir who knew the magic of the time of the gods, being the great champion of the tournament, but will the avatar be able to defeat Fenrir and his arcane magic?

"Devil's Tower", tells of the second invasion of Satan Morroc, the Giant Demon Surt who was sealed after the Thousand Year War between the Gods and the Jotun or Giants of Muspelheim that devastated Rune-Midgars, 400 years later Morroc's powers managed to be stopped by the mysterious knight Thanatos who gave his life to seal Morroc in the middle of the Sograt Desert. The second attempt was 600 years ago today, many children have been lost in the last year, research carried out by Loki and a group of assassins, due to the actions of a group of individuals trying to resurrect Satan Morroc, several groups have been sent to investigate the guild of assassins and the Order of Knights, Julianna Lucille an assassin from the support group and friend of Loki investigates the tower with the knights and they are injured, for which the avatar helps the injured, to later enter the tower to kill the demons. It is revealed that part of Julianna's body is not organic and she refers to it as 'a gift from the gods', and helps maintain the magical shield Thanatos used to seal Surt to the top of the tower, but the seal is broken they are teleported to the Sograt Desert. Hero's Trail part 3, consists of 2 instances "Sarah and Fenrir" and "Airship Assault".

"Airship Assault", tells how the group after what happened in Prontera, goes to Juno in search of fragments of the Heart of Ymir traveling by airboat, but they are suddenly attacked by the servants of Himmelmez, gremlins, dragons, beholders and wiverns. At the same time, Captain Ferlock, seeing that his ship is infested with creatures, begins to shoot at him, without measuring the possible consequences of these acts. Banquet For Heroes

"Rooms of Consciousness", shows Fenrir and Iris entering the room where the fragment of the Heart of Ymir was kept, they face some undead, and later to the evil witch Bijou who has a deformed hand and summons Amdarai, they are defeated by Fenrir and Iris, and in her last breath Bijou tries to finish off the heroines, but Sarah Irine appears who ends Bijou's life and steals the fragment of the Heart of Ymir and takes it away. In the manhwa, Amdarais's role is played by Bijou's pet troll Geirrod. Although Amdarais does not appear as such in the manhwa, Ymir's silhouette is very similar to Amdarais's silhouette, which has 6 eyes, while Ymir has 4. Geirrod, for his part, has 3 heads and a huge, muscular body.
