Raggamuffin
raggamuffin music, usually abbreviated as ragga, is a subgenre of dancehall which is itself a subgenre of reggae, in the which instrumentation is fundamentally composed of electronic mode. Similar to rap, sampling occupies a prominent role in raggamuffin.
The 1985 song "Under Me Sleng Teng" by Wayne Smith and produced by King Jammy on a Casio MT-40 synthesizer, it is generally recognized as the first ragga track. "Sleng Teng" launched Jammy's popularity, and other producers quickly released their own versions of the riddim, accompanied by dozens of different vocalists.
The term ragga is currently used as a synonym for dancehall reggae or to describe dancehall with a deejay talking rather than deejaying over a riddim.
Etymology
The term raggamuffin is an intentionally misspelled meaning of ragamuffin, a term that entered Jamaican patois after the colonization of Jamaica by the British Empire in the XVII. Despite the pejorative application of the term by British colonialists, Jamaican youth appropriated it as an intra-group designation. The term raggamuffin music describes the music of Jamaican "ghetto dwellers". It is known that when Bob Marley was asked about the correct way to write "reggae", he replied: "... write it however you want, since it is the apocope of what we are", referring to the word raggamuffin, derived from "rag" (rag), that is to say: Ragged. and the muffin of the well-known British dessert or cup cake which was used by the mixture of sounds. In Venezuela this genre is significant in the city of Maracay with exponents of international stature such as Verdeman LRuz
