In the science fiction series Stargate SG-1 and the original Stargate film, Ra is a fictional character based on the Ra from Egyptian Mythology.

He was the first to discover Earth and the Tau'ri. He had a son with Hathor, Heru'ur, and was the brother of Apophis. His elite jaffa were the Horus Guards. Due to his power, cunning, and authority, he earned the position of the most powerful of the System Lords. Despite the animosity that the System Lords felt toward each other, Ra was recognized as the Supreme Lord of the Goa'uld System, the nominal emperor of the Goa'uld. Because of this and the supposed murder of Egeria, the Tok'ra have the name after him, which means 'against Ra'. He died after 10,000 years of reign, in the rebellion of the inhabitants of Abydos.

In the original movie

Ra died in the Stargate movie. The premise of the film was that Ra was a humanoid alien who acquired human form by possessing the body of a young boy (it is deduced that the possession was carried out through a type of molecular fusion) and posed as a god to enslave the people of Earth. He was dethroned on Earth, but still dominated the planet Abydos which was the planet they traveled to from Earth.

The Earth mission was able to communicate with the natives, who were enslaved by Ra. The plans were to destroy the "Stargate" of Abydos with a nuclear bomb against any threat. Finally the bomb was not detonated on the planet but in Ra's pyramid ship, where it was introduced thanks to the transport rings.

In the series Stargate SG-1 they changed history by completely altering Ra's origin and his body form, Ra went from being a humanoid alien to being a parasitic eel-shaped creature called Goa& #39;uld, was the bravest and most unconscious of the System Lords and for this reason he earned the title of Supreme System Lord and became de facto emperor of the Goa'uld although this It was more of a nominal title.

Ra appeared only once in Stargate SG-1 (Episode "Moebius Part 1" of the eighth season), in which the SG-1 team used a machine from the time of the Ancients to travel to the earth's past, just before the revolution against Ra.

Fictional story

First Goa'uld Dynasty

Ra appeared in the year 22,000 BC. C., along with other lower lords such as Apep, Nut and Thoth. Apep took over the empire of Atok, the first alpha male. Ra, along with the others, expanded his empire nearly wiping out the Unas. It was then that Anubis made his appearance and gained Apep's favor.

When Anubis killed Apep, the other Goa'uld united against him. Anubis was defeated in 17,400 BC. C. and Ra held the highest position in the empire.

Bastet was rewarded by Ra himself for his help in the fight against Anubis, who introduced Osiris and Isis among the lower lords. To ensure that the incident with Anubis would never happen again, Ra dismantled Anubis' superweapon and divided the crystals that powered it among the remaining Goa'uld. Thus ended the First Goa'uld Dynasty, giving rise to the second.

Second Goa'uld Dynasty

With the Unas of their native planet dwindling and the Goa'uld symbiotes growing at a steady rate, Ra and the others pushed their species to the limit. Around the year 16,000 BC. C., Ra created a new form of government and established himself as Lord of the Supreme System. To become Lord of the System, the members of the group had to vote whether they agreed or not. Around this period Ra took Egeria as his mate.

Around the year 14,000 BC. C., the Goa'uld discovered small amounts of Naquadah, so Ra launched an era of expansion. This is probably why they came into conflict with the Asgard for the first time in 13,860 BC. C. The Asgard immediately declared themselves enemies of the System Lords.

The Goa'uld attacked the Asgard, but they proved to be more powerful. That is why the first withdrew from the battle, and Ra began to search for reserves of Naquadah. Almost four thousand years later the Goa'uld attacked the Asgard and the Furlings. Instead of winning the war, they caused constant confrontation between the races.

Despite not attacking directly, there were many battles and among them Ra managed to replace his Unas body with that of the Asgard Famrir. However, this new body began to reject the symbiote and was also wounded in battle in 9177 BC. Fleeing from the Asgard, Ra found Earth and began using humans as ideal hosts for Goa'uld, replacing Famrir's dying body. Humans thus began to worship him as a god. He then installed a Stargate in Egypt (ignoring the one originally located in Antarctica), and enslaved the humans.
