The Pyrenean-Mozarabic group is a subgroup proposed by Ethnologue to classify the Romance languages.

Classification

The Pyrenean-Mozarabic group is usually classified in various ways, and there is no global consensus on its parentage. There do not seem to be too many isoglosses common to Mozarabic and Aragonese. In fact, Aragonese is a Romance language that is difficult to classify, since on the one hand it is similar to the western Ibero-Romance languages and on the other it has some common characteristics with the Occitan-Romance languages (Catalan and Occitan).

The two most common classification options for Aragonese and Mozarabic are:

  1. Classify them together as a third group within Iberorromance languages.
  2. Classify them as a separate group of the iberorromance group, even outside the galo-ibric group, and within the italoccidental group, of which also included the aforementioned Gallo-ibéric languages. This option is basically followed by Ethnologue.
  3. Classify the Aragonese as an iberorromance language and leave the Mozarab as an unclassifiable language within the Romanesque languages due to data scarcity. On the other hand the mozárabe with respect to the Aragonese presents conservation of the Latin groups (mn, mb, nd, ct, cc) and the diptongation before (au, ai), lention of the /p/ latina in /b/, lost of /o/ end after /r, l, t/, palatization of the groups (ci, ti, ce, te) (c) The Aragonese most of the isoglosses share them with the Iberian and western languages.
