Psychophysics

Psychophysics is a branch of psychology that studies the relationship between the magnitude of a physical stimulus and the intensity with which it is perceived by an observer. Its objective is to be able to find a scale where this relationship can be placed.

History

The first treatise in which psychophysics is used is the treatise The Sand Counter, written by Archimedes in the III century a. C., later it was developed by Hermann von Helmholtz.

Research in psychophysics initially focused on the sense of vision during the 19th century, but interest quickly spread expanded to the other senses.
