Regional Division
It is presidential decree 710-2004 that defines the Development Regions into which the Dominican Republic is administratively divided and establishes the regionalization of the country.
The arrangement was made with the objective of facilitating the application of public policies and divides the country into 3 macro-regions:
- Macro-region Cibao (or North)
- Macro-region South (or Southwest)
- Eastern Macro-region (or East, or Southeast).
Each of these is further subdivided into development regions.
All instances of the state must accommodate their plans and executions to this arrangement.
The objectives of the administrative division are:
- Decentralize state administration and public functions
- Dynamic regional development
- Ensuring the participation of the community and its various organizations
- Ensuring continuity in public service management
