Professor Samuel Oak (オーキド博士, Yukinari Ookido-Hakase ?, Professor Yukinari Orchid in Japanese) is a character from the anime and Pokémon games. He is a scientist who studies Pokémon, recognized as the best of all.

Biography

When Oak was young (from the movie Pokémon 4Ever: Celebi - Voice of the Forest) he encountered a Celebi on the run and protected him. Celebi returned the favor by helping him escape when the two were in a bind by transporting them back in time 40 years forward, bringing them to the present. There, Samuel Oak met Ash Ketchum and together they went on an adventure to save Celebi who was now being hunted by a more dangerous opponent.

Oak then traveled with Agatha (who later became one of the Pokémon League's Elite Four) on their pokemon adventure, until one day he decided he preferred to study pokemon for the sake of of the science.

Studying in this field, he met many people, some of whom already recognized him as an expert and learned from him, later becoming Pokémon teachers by studying their own field in their home region.

In the Present

Currently, Professor Oak works in Pallet Town studying the pokémon there that some trainers have sent him.

As the expert local teacher, you have the obligation to give the trainers your starter pokémon for them to start their adventure. He gives them the choice to choose between Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle.

Oak has a grandson named Gary Oak, who wishes to be strong on his own without remaining in the shadow of his quirky grandfather. He has been the lifelong rival of Ash Ketchum, who is the only trainer Oak knows who can create such close bonds of friendship.

In the anime, Oak is in charge of an assistant who answers to the name of Tracey Sketchit (Character that was incorporated in the second season), a young cartoonist and pokemon observer, who accompanied Ash during his trip through the archipelago Oranges. After Ketchum's return from the aforementioned trip, Sketchit decides to stay with Oak, whom she always admired, and become his right hand.

In Video Games

Professor Oak appears in the Red, Green, and Blue editions (as well as their FireRed and LeafGreen remakes) and the Yellow version of the first generation Pokémon games. In addition to introducing you to the world of Pokémon, he lives in Pallet Town just like your character and is the one who gives you your first Pokémon in the game. While in the Red and Blue versions (and their remakes) he gives you a choice between Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle. In the Yellow version, he captures a Pikachu and gives it to you as the first Pokémon because your opponent takes the Eevee that was supposed to be for you. After you complete the first mission of the game (search Ciudad Verde for a mail for the professor in the shop and deliver it to him) he gives you and your rival the Pokédex to register each species of pokémon you find and make their dream come true. As you progress through the game, it will evaluate the progress in your Pokédex, either by visiting it again in Pallet Town or by connecting to its PC.

Spawns again later in these same builds, when you've beaten your opponent at the end of the game. After congratulating you, he registers you in the hall of fame, becoming the Pokémon League champion. In the Fire Red and Leaf Green versions, also update the Pokédex for you and your rival to the national version, the requirement is that you have captured 60 species of Pokémon.

Professor Oak also appears in the Gold, Silver, and Crystal versions of the second generation Pokémon games. As in the previous version, it introduces you to the world of Pokémon, later, once your adventure begins, you see him in Mr. Pokémon's house and after hearing a conversation between this gentleman and your character, he is amazed to see the Pokémon that you have, so he gives you a slightly more complete Pokédex, and also when Professor Oak appears he evaluates it in the same way as in previous versions. Professor Oak also has his own radio program at the Ciudad Goldenrod Radio Tower (Ciudad Trigal in Spain) called & # 34; La Hora Pokémon & # 34; next to DJ Mary (Rosa in Spain) where he indicates routes in which some wild pokémon appear. And as it happens in the previous versions, it appears after you have defeated the Pokémon League Champion along with Mary who wants to interview you, only now she just congratulates you since it is Lance who takes you to the hall of fame to register there same.

Later in the game you see him again in Kanto, always in his laboratory in Pallet Town. When you have won the eight Kanto medals, it allows you to visit Mt. Silver where, in addition to powerful wild Pokémon, there is Ash (or Red) who is the final boss of these versions.

It finally appears once more in the Diamond and Pearl versions of the Pokémon games corresponding to the fourth generation. You find it after you have completed the Sinnoh Pokédex in Professor Rowan's (Raw) lab to give you access to the National Pokédex. He also mentions that he is on route 221 and he will give you something if you show him that you captured 400 species of Pokémon, this is one more option for the Pokétch (Poké-clock) that shows the pokémon captured with the Pokétore item.
