Princess Daisy (デイジー姫 Deijī-hime?< /sup>) is a character from the Mario franchise video games. She first appeared in Super Mario Land (1989) as the ruler of Sarasaland. She is rumored to be Luigi's love interest, just as Princess Peach is Mario's love interest. This became the plot of the live-action film, Super Mario Bros. (1993), in which Luigi saves Daisy from King Koopa.

Since her reappearance in Mario Tennis, Daisy has been a staple playable character in Mario spin-off games, often alongside her best friend Peach. She was created by Shigeru Miyamoto's mentor, Gunpei Yokoi, the producer of Super Mario Land. Yokoi wanted to recreate the feeling of Super Mario Bros. (1985), only set in another world separate from the Mushroom Kingdom.

Daisy is the heir to the throne of Sarasaland, although she also usually keeps Peach company in the Mushroom Kingdom. She is fond of sports and is very competitive; In addition, she has a quite rude and daring character. Her name, clothing, emblems, and special abilities are often based on flowers.

Features

Daisy is a tomboy who exhibits more characteristics of a typical boy than a typical girl, since she is sporty, energetic, tough, feisty and likes to get dirty. She is also the only woman in Mario Tennis Aces who wears shorts instead of a skirt. She also likes shopping and dining at good restaurants, but she gladly passes up those pleasures to train. Daisy is also quite clumsy, as she fell off the stage while she was receiving the trophy from her in Mario Tennis. Daisy also usually likes to wink and blow kisses into the air.

Relationship with other characters

Because Princess Daisy has only appeared in one main game of the franchise ("Super Mario Land") and the rest have been in spin-offs, her official contact with the other characters is little to none. But her interaction with the other characters in "spin-offs" They are numerous.

  • Luigi: Daisy and Luigi never met in an official Super Mario game, since the one who rescues her in "Super Mario Land" is only Mario. But even so, in the spin-offs there are rumors that Daisy is interested in him, or just both have a strong friendship, as well as the one with Peach. They get along very well and are very great friends. The reasons or evidence for which Luigi and Daisy are rumored to feel a loving attraction like Mario and Princess Peach are the following:

- In 'Mario Kart Wii', in Daisy's Circuit, there are two statues of her and Luigi, as adults and as babies, dancing.

In the "Mario Party 5" and "Mario Party 6", when they form a pair, the name of the resulting team is "Steady Sweeties" translated as "Cariños Constantes", and in "Mario Party 8" is "Tango Tanglers" translated as "Entanglements of Tango".

In the introduction of the game 'Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour', it is seen that the two of them spend time practicing together with Mario and Peach.

- In the game y#34;Mario Power Tennis#34;, when you win a trophy with Daisy, she introduces herself to Luigi on the podium saying "Hey, sweetie!" ("Hey Honey!""").

- In the introduction of the game "Mario Super Sluggers" Luigi is hit by Donkey Kong, at which point he focuses on Daisy and Toad worried about him.

- In the game Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, in the pairs figure skating event, Luigi and Daisy finish their routine together with one arm of each on the other's back, something that occurs between Luigi and Daisy only. However, in the medal celebration, both Mario and Peach and Sonic and Amy have a unique and special celebration, but Luigi and Daisy do not.

  • Princess Peach: Daisy and Peach are best friends since both appeared together in "NES: Open Tournament Golf", so much that has been shown in "Mario Kart: Double Dash!!" and in some sports games. In "Mario Party DS", both call themselves "Royal Power when they form a team.
  • Mario: He rescued her from the evil alien Tatanga in the game "Super Mario Land". Still, they're both just friends.
  • Bowser: Being in love with Peach, the rock with Daisy is scarce. Although in the movie "Super Mario Bros." it's sequees-built by two Bowser beans. In "Mario Party 3", during History mode, when Daisy sees Bowser gets scared and gives him a strong slap that sends him to fly far away. I do.
  • Bowser Jr.: Its sprinkle with Daisy is also scarce, but in "Mario Super Sluggers", he kidnapped her and made her a statue.
  • Waluigi: Some of the spin-off games say Daisy's relationship with Waluigi is negative. For example, in "Mario Superstar Baseball" and "Mario Super Sluggers", both share bad chemistry. In "Mario Party 5" and "Mario Party 6", his team name is "Awkward Date". But it is also mentioned that Waluigi has feelings for her since "Mario Party 3", a theory that has not yet been corroborated.
  • Rosalina/Estela/Rosetta: Daisy and Rosalina have not officially met since the cosmic princess debuted on "Super Mario Galaxy". It should be noted, however, that both of them get along very well. In sports tactics, she has strength and agility similar to Daisy's, making Rosalina an excellent rival to her.

Design

Princess Peach, Rosalina or Estela and Daisy

Old model (1989-2001)

In the old model, Daisy wore a yellow dress with white stitching, and accessories in the shape of six-petal flowers, sapphire and white.

Physionomically, Daisy had a round face, a profiled face without makeup, large round blue eyes, and long, straight hair was brunette. The crown she wore on her head was magenta, with a yellow flower-shaped jewel in the front and blue jewels on the sides of it.

In Mario Tennis for N64, Daisy wore the same classic outfit, except she was wearing a yellow sports minidress, sneakers instead of heels, white socks, and no gloves. The minidress was similar to Peach's in the game; However, the only difference was that Daisy didn't wear a crown and Peach did.

New model (2002-present)

As of Mario Party 4, Daisy uses a new model; Her yellow dress now has orange edges, the white seams on her blouse are wavy that look like flower petals, and her gloves reach up to her wrists (a detail that did not change from her previous model). Her crown went from pink to copper gold, still featuring the same style jewelry but changing the color of the jewelry to white and aquamarine. Her accessories changed color, the brooch and flower-shaped earrings are white and aquamarine.

Physically, Daisy also changed: her brown skin became pinkish white (although in Mario Golf: Super Rush it became slightly tan again), and her eyes are now a little larger and slanted the color blue. Her hair went from brunette to a light reddish brown and became shorter, ending at her shoulders, but her bangs remain the same.

Alternative clothing

Apart from her classic dress style, Daisy usually wears a yellow sleeveless T-shirt, orange shorts, white socks, orange sports shoes, and does not wear gloves. In Super Mario Strikers she wears a navel top, orange shorts, white gloves, orange socks, and sports shoes. In Mario Kart Wii, Daisy can also wear a white motorcycle jumpsuit with orange lines, only if the player chooses a motorcycle instead of a Kart in "Player / Multiplayer". In Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the white color of her overalls now has a yellowish tone and she uses it when she rides motorcycles and ATVs.

In some installments of Mario Golf and Mario Tennis for handheld consoles, Daisy wears a yellow minidress with two orange edges. InMario & Sonic at Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 , her outfit changes a little, with her t-shirt being shorter to the hip and with a white line on the sides, and wearing yellow lines on her shorts. In addition, she has more special suits in Olympic events such as Boxing, Karate, Surfing, Gymnastics among others.

In Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic GamesDaisy wears a yellow leotard with orange lines on each side that doubles as a swimsuit; She is seen wearing this outfit to gymnastics and aquatic events in these installments.

In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games and Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter GamesDaisy wears an outfit more suitable for cold weather. It consists of a dark orange cardigan with white lines that she wears under her yellow minidress and dark orange leggings with white vertical lines on both sides. It includes white gloves and white booties with a yellow background. In Mario Golf: Super Rush she wears a yellow short-sleeved shirt, orange socks, white gloves, a white skirt with an orange belt and her skin tone is a little less light than in previous games.

In Dr. Mario World's Daisy wears a nurse's outfit, consisting of a white blouse, an orange skirt, and a light yellow gown, and like Peach does not wear a crown and Rosalina does.

Character voice

Jessica Chisum was the actress who gave voice to Daisy in the Nintendo 64 game Mario Tennis. This voice was superb, but elegant and soft in tone. In Mario Party 3 , Mario Party 4 and Mario Party 5 , Jen Taylor was the actress who played her voice, this voice was a a little more shrill and with a lot of accent, which was almost incomprehensible; She sounded more like a girl's voice.

As of the game Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour, Deanna Mustard is the actress in charge of interpreting the voice of Daisy. Here, she has a higher pitched voice. Loved by many and hated by many.

Appearances

Daisy's emblem is used to represent her in many games.

In adventure/platform games

  • Super Mario Land: Daisy debuted in this game, where she fulfills the role as damsel in trouble, being she the princess to whom her kingdom was snatched by an alien named Tatanga, who Mario as a hero returns after defeating the enemy and saving her.
  • Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam: Daisy makes a simple cameo next to Peach and Rosalina within a card.
  • Super Mario Maker: Daisy appears as a pixelated skin of her, using the Amiibo of his character in the 8-bit mode.
  • Super Mario Run: Appears as damsel in the mode Remix 10 the game, when the player faces the final boss to throw it directly into the lava. At the end of that level, it is possible to unlock and control it. It stands out for the ability of the double jump, so when you jump once, you can run a second jump to get higher.
  • Super Mario Bros. Wonder: It appears as a playable character for the first time.

Mario Party Series

He appears in the Mario Party board video game saga, debuting in Mario Party 3 and has continued to appear in all subsequent games as a controllable character, except in Mario Party Advance.

Mario Kart Series

Daisy appears in the Mario Kart racing video game series, usually as an unlockable character.

  • Mario Kart: Double Dash!! It was the first game of the saga where Daisy appears, here she becomes Peach's partner, both have the "Heart" as a special item. It has its personal circuit, "Crucero Daisy"as well as his personal vehicle, the "Calesin Florido", which has the same color of his dress.
  • In Mario Kart DS is, along with Waluigi, Huesitos and R.O.B., one of the four unlockable characters in the game. The Gold Trophy must be won in every cup of the Grand Prix Retro mode in 50cc to unlock Daisy.
  • Stop. Mario Kart Wii He's still an unlockable character. Here debuts your child counterpart, Baby Daisy. She has a special suit when driving motorcycles with the same design as Peach and Rosalina (in this case, orange). He also has his personal circuit, Little Daisy.. The Special Cup must be won in 150cc to unlock Daisy.
  • Stop. Mario Kart 7 He's still an unlockable character. It appears when the player wins the Champiñón Cup in 150cc. It has its personal circuit, "Colinas Daisy" and the return "Crucero Daisy" of Double Dash!!.
  • Stop. Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 DeluxeDaisy is a playable character. In both games it does not need to be unlocked, as it is available from the beginning. Also appears your child counterpart, Baby Daisy.
  • In Mario Kart Tour, makes appearance from the beginning as a character 'Singular' Unlockable. Like Peach, he retains his Mario Kart Double Dash item, known here as special skill, the Heart. In the same game, Daisy has some variants:

-For the London season, a variant called 'Christmas' Daisy enters, her special ability is the Roulette of 7.

-In the Floral season, another variant called Daisy "Fairy" enters the game with heart as her special ability.

-For the Summer Festival season, a third variant of Daisy appears known as 'Yukata' Daisy, her special ability is Fire Flower.

- In the summer season, a fourth variant called Daisy "Swimsuit" enters the game, his special ability is the Triple Banana.

- In the Amsterdam season, a fifth variant called Daisy 'farmer', with her ability is the Hammer.

- In the Bangkok season, a sixth variant called Daisy 'Thai dress', with her coin box skill.

- And in the Oceanic season, a seventh variant called 'sailor' Daisy, with her double bob-omba ability.

Super Smash Bros. Series

Daisy also appears as a statuette in Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. 4. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl also appears on two stickers. Something curious in the games Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. 4 is that Peach can change color (and dark skin in Melee), having brown hair, a yellow skirt, and accessories with floral designs, with which she manages to resemble Daisy. However, the profile is still Peach's.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Daisy appears for the first time as an independent character, while being controllable and unlockable. She is loosely based on the traits and abilities that Peach possesses, and she no longer has her alternate costume. However, what differentiates her from her counterpart is her energetic, competitive, optimistic and tough personality, which gives her a unique touch. And in this way, her Final Smash is similar to Peach's except that instead of drawing peaches, daisies appear.

Mario sports games

Since her first appearance in Super Mario Land, Princess Daisy was forgotten for almost a decade. Daisy appears in the game NES Open Tournament Golf (1991), where she is Luigi's caddy, as Peach is Mario's caddy. In Mario Tennis (2000) for the Nintendo 64, Daisy reappeared after a long absence. She also appears in the following sports games:

Daisy is one of the main characters in the 1993 film Super Mario Bros., loosely based on the games, played by actress Samantha Mathis. She is an archeology student at New York University with whom Luigi falls in love. While searching for dinosaur bones under the Brooklyn Bridge, Daisy is kidnapped by two henchmen of President Koopa, the dictator of Dinohattan, of which Daisy is the rightful princess.
