Contenido The Pongola River (Afrikaans: Pongolarivier) is a river in South Africa and Mozambique, a tributary of the Maputo River. The Pongola rises near Utrecht in the north of KwaZulu-Natal province, runs east through Pongola, is dammed at Jozini, crosses the Lebombo Mountains, heads north to Mozambique, and empties into the Maputo River.
