Poena

Poena in Greco-Roman mythology was the goddess of punishment and the helper in these tasks of Nemesis, the Greco-Roman goddess of revenge. Poena in Latin means pain, or punishment.

In ancient Rome, Poena became the name given to the sanction applied for any crime and its use has endured in Spanish as a term applied to a legal punishment.
