A piscola, also called a national mix, is a popular Chilean cocktail consisting of a mixture of pisco with a soft drink. Preferably with Coca-Cola.

Some people prefer to drink it with white drinks, calling themselves "white" or "mixed" when ordering one in a pub or discotheque. It can also be consumed with tonic water, taking the name of "piston".

It is one of the most popular, consumed and representative alcoholic beverages in Chile due to its low cost, depending on the quality of the pisco, and its easy preparation. You can find different graduations of pisco, from 30° to 46°, but the most popular and common is 35°.

Over the years, it has achieved a high popularity like other alcoholic beverages, such as beer, chicha, rum, wine and whiskey. It is so much so that the custom of selling pisco in promotion with a drink has been typified, which is popularly called a "promo", which can be found in authorized alcohol outlets in the country. A "promo" can include either a 750ml bottle of pisco ("normal promo"), a 1,000ml bottle ("misil promo"), or, as of 2020, 1,500ml ("ballena promo").

Preparation

In terms of its preparation, it is similar to cubalibre (which in Venezuela is known as "roncola"). Served in a tall glass, the relationship between the piscola and the cola drink depends on personal taste. There are those who only add a tint of color to the piscola, an approximate ratio of 2:1 ("cabezona or tea", which only the most drinkers do), although most serve it in a ratio of 1:2, 1:3 (traditional) or even 1:5 (mild piscola). It is commonly accompanied with 2 or 3 ice cubes, the pisco is served first and then the cola (it can also be mixed with lemon-lime flavored soda or ginger ale according to the taste of the person who prepares it).. On more formal occasions, lemon slices are added to the piscola.

National piscola day

Since 2003, the "National Pisco Day" has been celebrated in Chile on February 8, a date established by national pisco producers as a measure for the promotion of Chilean pisco.
