Piccolo (ピッコロ, Pikkoro?) is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball manga and anime series created by Akira Toriyama.

(Son Gokū Katsu!!, 孫悟空 孫悟空 つ!!?), published in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine on February 9, 1988, as the rival of the protagonist Son Goku. However, it is later revealed that he is a member of an extraterrestrial humanoid species called the Namekuseijins, beings capable of creating the Dragon Balls, which grant wishes.
After losing to Goku, Piccolo decides to team up with him and his friends to take down bigger threats. He acquires great importance in the series by becoming Son Gohan's martial arts teacher, whom he decides to take as a pupil after verifying his enormous strength and potential. In training, Piccolo is extremely hard on Gohan, always trying to get the most out of the boy.
History
Heir to his father's legacy, he can be considered an extension of his father's existence. Since his birth, his first goal was to become strong enough to take revenge on Goku. After three years of accelerated growth and hard training, Piccolo participated in the 23rd Martial Arts Tournament under the name Mao Junior with the intention of killing Goku. After eliminating Krillin in the quarterfinals, he had to face Kami Sama, whom he locked up with a Mafuba reversal.
He finally faced Goku in the final, revealing his true identity and scaring the entire audience. The fight against Goku was one of the most epic remembered in the series. Finally Goku managed to free Kami Sama and defeated Piccolo. To everyone's surprise, Goku gave his rival a hermit's seed, which she recovered and promised revenge one of these days. Years later he would be forced to join forces with Goku to fight Raditz.
After the defeat of Raditz and consequently the death of Goku, Piccolo decided to train Gohan, since he believed that Goku's son was the salvation in the fight against Nappa and Vegeta that will take place in a year. During this fight, Piccolo discovered that he belonged to an alien race called Namekuseijins and in the confrontation against Nappa, overpowering the paternal feelings that he had developed towards Gohan while training him, he sacrificed his life to protect the boy. During his period in the other world, he trained under Kaio Sama, until he was revived and transported to Namek.
On this planet he would find a dying Neil, with whom he would merge, increasing his power in an extraordinary way. With this new power he would fight Frieza, defeating him in his first transformation. But when Frieza used his remaining two transformations he defeated Piccolo easily. Frieza was later defeated by Goku in his Super Saiyan state.
A year later, and faced with the threat of the arrival of the androids, he trained together with Goku and Gohan. Three years later he would defeat Dr. Gero (android #20), but his powerlessness against androids #16, #17 and #18 and the appearance of Cell, caused him to fuse with Kami Sama again to increase his power. the power of him. With this new fusion, Piccolo obtained the wisdom of Kami Sama and an incredible increase in power that would surpass that of a Super Saiyan, in this way, Piccolo is one of the few characters that is not left behind by the power of a Saiyan. Piccolo never assumed the role of God, which was filled by another Namekuseijin named Dende.
After Cell's defeat at the hands of Gohan, Piccolo was brought back into action by the appearance of Majin Buu. In the 25th Martial Arts Tournament, he fell in the quarterfinals by retiring against Kaio Shin, while against Majin Boo he faced the monster alongside Goten and Trunks. After dying and being revived with the Dragon Balls, Piccolo collaborated a lot with his energy in Goku's Spirit Bomb to eliminate Majin Buu.
In DBGT Piccolo would try to help Gohan possessed by Baby, but his student would finish him off with a Kame Hame Ha.
After Baby's defeat, Piccolo would sacrifice his life to make the Black Star Spheres (Dark Dragon Ball) disappear. After his death, Piccolo helps Goku escape from Hell with the Heart Fusion technique, so that Goku can fight Super Android #17. Once he manages to help Goku escape from hell, Piccolo, for his part, is now condemned to remain in place for all eternity and becomes the new guardian of hell, taking care of subjects like Nappa, Frieza, Cell and other wicked, do not disturb the order of the place.
In Dragon Ball Super he didn't have much relevance until he participated in the tournament between universes. He resumes training him with Gohan, helping him reactivate his mystical potential and reminding him how a warrior should act and that he must not let his arrogance work against him, as he did when he fought Cell and Majin. Boo.
In "Dragon Ball Super Hero" he is seen training Pan, with whom he has developed a bond similar to Gohan's. Thanks to his training and the enhancement he got from the Dragon Balls, he achieves a new transformation called "Orange Piccolo"; in which his body and his face become larger and a more orange skin color instead of the traditional green like that of the Namekusein. It can also be seen that the color of his arms changed from pink to yellow, like Kami-sama's, hinting that he has already reached maturity.
