Piccolo Daimaō (ピッコロ大魔王, Pikkoro Daimaō? sup>, lit. Great Demon King Piccolo), also called Piccoro Daimaku in the Mexican dubbing and simply Piccolo in Spanish, is a character fiction from the Dragon Ball manga and anime series. Its name comes from the Italian piccolo flauto piccolo (small flute), although within the series it is explained that it means from another world in the Namek language, so its name is translates, according to the plot, as Great Demon King of Another World.

Piccolo Daimaō marks a before and after in Dragon Ball. From its appearance, the story loses much of the humor that characterized it at the beginning and acquires greater seriousness and drama, concentrating more on the combats and less on the adventures, practically non-existent in this saga, and which will last until the end of the story. series.

In the American film adaptation, Piccolo Daimaō is played by James Marsters. His characterization has generated multiple criticisms among Dragon Ball fans because it includes some traits that are not typical of the original character; For example, he wears black armor that many find similar to what Batman uses; Furthermore, although he does have antennas, unlike Akira Toriyama's drawing, the new Piccolo always has them folded.

Cosplayers characterizing Piccolo Daimaō

Piccolo Daimaō is the evil part of a Namekian being who came to take refuge on Earth when a climatic cataclysm almost destroyed life on that world. The good part of him became Kamisama, therefore he retains most of his abilities. Piccolo feels great affection for these creatures and great pain when they die.

As a combatant he is shown to be intelligent and cunning, and possesses a wide variety of ki attacks. Piccolo Daimaō is an evil being who wishes to become the master of the Earth to impose crime and chaos as absolute laws. Curiously, after spending centuries locked up by the Mafūba, he would develop a very peculiar character defect: a phobia of rice cookers, the object where he was locked up by Mutaito. After being freed, these objects cause him a panic attack, to the point that when he confronted Ten Shin Han and saw that he was planning to lock him in a pot again, he was paralyzed by fear, being saved only by the intervention of his servant, who destroys the object. cooking pot.

Biography

Arrival on Earth

In the year 261, natural disasters on Namek forced Katattsu, an inhabitant of the planet, to send his son to another planet with a letter, in which he promised to meet him soon. He arrived on Earth, to an inhospitable region known as the Yunzabit Mountains, where he waited for his father for many years. During that time of waiting he trained, and finally left the region to see the world and arrived at the temple of Kamisama, setting himself the mission of becoming the next God of Earth. However, he could not, because there was a part of evil in his heart, so the young Namekian, after much practice, managed to expel that evil part, which materialized in the form of Piccolo Daimaō who came down to the earth.

First attempt at conquest

Piccolo Daimaō came down to Earth and wreaked chaos, proclaiming himself "King of Demons". The Nameks reproduce asexually using eggs, so in a short time Piccolo created an army of Mazoku. Only Mutaito's intervention could save the Earth, using the Mafūba technique to seal Piccolo inside a container from which he could not leave.

Second attempt at conquest and death

300 years later, Pilaf opened the pot where Mutaito had locked Piccolo Daimaō centuries ago, hoping that he would share part of the world with him, but Piccolo Daimaō only took advantage of Pilaf and his henchmen, and later the ejects from his aircraft.

The Demon King begins his plan to rule the world by eliminating the participants of the Tenkaichi Budōkai to ensure that no one can confront him with the Mafuba technique and thus lock him up again. At the same time, he searches for the Dragon Balls to regain his lost youth. To help him he fathers a series of warriors: Piano, as his assistant and butler; in addition to Tambourine and Cymbal, which leave a note with their symbol on the body of their victims. When his spawn are destroyed, he himself goes to find who did it and confronts Goku whom he easily defeats. Fortunately he manages to survive, and plans to return to Master Karin's Tower; Well, he must win in order to save the Earth.

Meanwhile, Piccolo Daimaō manages to defeat Kame Sen'nin, who was trying to use the Mafūba again to lock him in a pot again, finally succeeding and taking the Seventh Dragon Ball from him, managing to summon Shenlong and ask to be young again. After obtaining his wish, he destroys the dragon so that the Dragon Balls are useless.

After taking over the King's Castle, he forces the King to abdicate in his favor and demands that the prisons release all their prisoners and encourages everyone to be evil. He warns the inhabitants that once a year, to celebrate his coronation as the new king, he would choose a number from a possible 43, which corresponds to the district number that he would destroy that same day. After choosing the first number and before leaving to destroy the district, he is attacked by Ten Shin Han, who managed to learn the Mafūba, but is easily defeated by Drum, a new spawn of Piccolo. Just before Drum ended Ten Shin Han's life, Goku appears and easily destroys Drum (as he had drunk the Water of the Gods and released the Hidden Power from him) challenging Piccolo Daimaō to a fight. After a tough fight, Piccolo Daimaō apparently had victory assured, having managed to injure Goku using Ten Shin Han, who was exhausted, as a means of blackmail. But Goku shoots out of the ground with a Kame Hame Ha and, concentrating his energy into a single fist, punches Piccolo, piercing his chest and finally defeating him. Before dying, Piccolo Daimaō throws an egg from his mouth into the distance, from which Piccolo (his son) would be born, and after fulfilling his last will it explodes and dies.
