Photogeology
Photogeology is the branch of geology that specializes in the study of the surfaces of planetary bodies through satellite images. For this, the interpretation of images is used, searching for superimposed surfaces and determining the relative ages of different units by comparing the amounts of craters they present and the discontinuities of the topographic characteristics.
Photogeology is a work procedure to make surface geology and correlations to the subsoil, based on the interpretation of aerial photographs.
It is a way of geologically recognizing large areas that allow obtaining a great wealth of detail, although not a precision such as that which could be obtained jointly using direct geological and topographic methods.
Photogeology does not replace field geology, but is used as an invaluable aid that allows to do in a few days the work that ordinarily requires weeks or months of field work.
