Phoenix Ikki
Ikki (一輝, Ikki ?) is the Knight of the constellation Phoenix in the Saint Seiya manga series. According to the Taizen of Saint Seiya he is the most powerful bronze knight, he is characterized by having the most aggressive and violent cosmos among the Knights. He is used to walking apart from the rest of the Bronze Knights, however he always appears in a timely manner in times of need. He considers himself a lone wolf who is not interested in hanging out in packs. Despite the fact that he was introduced later than the other four main Bronze Knights, Ikki's role in the story is quite significant. He serves as the series' first antagonist for the other Saints to defeat, as well as a powerful ally later in the series. In the CD Drama Do Cvindanja and in the spin-off Episode.G Assassin, Ikki was promoted to a Gold Knight of the constellation Leo, after the Holy War against Hades. Similarly, Leo's Kaiser also recognizes him as his successor.
Features
Appearance
Ikki is a young man with a rude and serious appearance, he has short blue hair, like his eyes, and a perpendicular scar that goes from his forehead to his nose, as a result of having dodged the blow that his old man threw at him. teacher and with which he ended up killing Esmeralda. In the manga, his hair was originally black and in the Next Dimension he is reddish-brown with dark shadows. His eyes are dark brown. His civilian attire consists of a sleeveless blue shirt with two diagonal stripes located parallel to the shoulders, crimson red pants, and brown shoes.
Personality
As a child, Ikki was known as a tough boy and most often when it came to defending his younger brother. Ikki's personality is drastically different from his classmates, he is the opposite of his younger brother Shun who is calm, soft, caring and very emotional, while Ikki is tough, cold, aggressive, and a very emotional person. lonely. They are a team of complementary styles.
This is all because Ikki was harshly trained and instilled with the ideology that only hate brings power, which seemed to have not influenced him much until he spared the life of his master, his beloved (girlfriend). Esmeralda died and her hatred that until then was locked up in her being was released when her origin as the son of Mitsumasa was revealed to her, on whom she could not take revenge since he was already dead. This hateful attitude was only maintained during the Black Knights stage, after which he was only a serious character, solitary and although "aggressive"; I no longer overflowed with so much hate. Although he doesn't like teamwork, he comes to fight whenever Athena's Knights need his help, and is often seen coming at the last moment to save his younger brother and friends from an attack. sure death. This tactic has always been exploited to his advantage, as he surprised enemies by fighting them. Ikki is a warrior who fights without holding back even when his enemy is a woman.
Although Ikki likes to be alone, he feels great devotion and love towards his brothers and his beloved Esmeralda, and as he confesses to Kasa, this is what gives him the strength to carry on. He is a noble, complex and mature character, who does not question himself every time it is necessary to sacrifice his life for his friends.
In Saint Seiya Omega, his personality has remained intact. His armor hasn't changed either. True to form, he does not hesitate to chide Koga and the other Bronze Knights of the XXI century for their softness and lack of cold-blooded to protect Athena from the forces of evil.
History
Childhood
Ikki along with Hyōga are the only knights who knew their mothers, considering that he must have lived with her until Shun's birth.
After the birth of his younger brother and the (deductible) death of his mother, Ikki carried Shun through the streets of Tokyo, until one night he has an encounter that marked his life when he was chased by a girl. Little Pandora went to Japan with the mission of introducing Hades' soul into Shun's body. Ikki is not intimidated and resists Pandora's attacks as best he can and manages to defend Shun, although his memory of this incident was erased from his mind.
Being "orphaned" he was fostered along with his younger brother Shun at the Graude Foundation orphanage, owned by Mitsumasa Kido. Where he would establish the first bonds of friendship with the other knight candidates (his half-brothers in the manga) but always showing a serious and protective attitude towards his brother.
Tatsumi was particularly annoyed by his rebelliousness, which came to the fore when it came to his brother Shun and especially when his training place was decided, since Ikki decided to take Shun's place when he was sent to Isla de la Reina Muerte which Tatsumi did not tolerate and decided to punish Ikki for his insolence. In the manga Tatsumi chases Ikki with dogs until he is cornered by the electrified fence that surrounded the orphanage. And when he was sent to the Death Queen Island, Tatsumi stirred him up by putting him on the ship more dead than alive.
Training
Ikki was trained on the Island of Queen Death, and was taught by Guilty. There he met Esmeralda, who worked with an old man from a nearby town (in the anime she is the daughter of her teacher), with whom he befriended and they ended up loving each other.
After six years of hard training, and the inculcation of hatred as a source of power, Guilty challenges Ikki to combat, giving him one last chance to obtain the Phoenix armor. Ikki bests his master, but is stopped before landing a fatal blow, out of devotion and respect for him. However, Guilty's frustration at the attitude of his student makes him launch a blow that, although it was aimed at Ikki, he barely manages to dodge it, leaving the scar on his face that would accompany him for the rest of his life.; unfortunately the blow kills Esmeralda almost instantly.
Enraged by the death of his only love, Ikki awakens hatred from the depths of his being and attacks his master mercilessly, finally ending his life. In the manga, before dying, Guilty congratulates Ikki and lets his student know about his origins so that his hatred is consumed at its peak.
Rescuing the Phoenix Armor
Manga : As Guilty lay dying, he instructed Ikki to go and reclaim the Phoenix armor, which was now his by right, from the Black Knights who had taken it. So Ikki goes into the Island of Queen Death and fights against the four Black Knights of the Swan, Andromeda, Pegasus and Dragon, whom he defeats. He then confronts Jango, the leader of the Black Saints, who was holding the bronze Phoenix armor. Ikki defeats Jango and dons the armor for the first time that he recognizes as the Bronze Knight of the Phoenix.
It is then that Shaka of Virgo appears on the island, and explains to Ikki that he has come to eliminate Jango, due to the evil activities of the Black Knights. However, he scoffs at the fact that the task was already done by a novice Bronze Knight. Ikki, enraged by the disdain, attacks him but Shaka shows him the difference in level between the two. Ikki humiliated by the defeat, asks him to kill him, however, Shaka does not agree because he manages to see that goodness still exists in Ikki's eyes. Then, she erases all the memories of this encounter from his memory and threatens him, saying that if they see each other as enemies again, she will make him remember the fear he felt before his power.
Anime: Ikki instantly dons the Phoenix armor and later goes on his own to the Island of Queen Death, where he confronts and defeats Jango and a Black Phoenix.
Leader of the Black Knights

Ikki accepts this situation and at this moment decides to start the fight against the Graude foundation and the Galactic Tournament to destroy the "creations" Since Mitsumasa Kido cannot take direct revenge on him, Ikki decides to kill all of his brothers.
The Galactic Tournament
His first appearance in history occurs in the middle of the Galactic Tournament (he only appears in the introduction of Episode 1 with his Armor on and making a prelude to the confrontation he will have against Seiya). As the first act of revenge, Ikki goes to the Graude Foundation Coliseum in Japan, where the Galactic Tournament takes place and secretly witnesses the first battles between the Bronze Knights. During the fight of his younger brother, Shun from Andromeda and Jabu from Unicorn, the Andromeda chain senses his presence, so upon finding himself discovered he decides to execute his plans. Shun is excited to meet his brother again after six years, however the excitement for the reunion soon turns into a bitter nightmare when Ikki savagely attacks him and claims that his return is solely for the destruction of the Foundation. graduate.
Though Unicorn Jabu and Wolf Nachi intercede they are defeated by a single blow from the Phoenix (Nachi is the first to be attacked by Ikki's Phoenix Fiendish Illusion, temporarily shredding his nerves from the effect of the illusion). The Black Knights subordinate to Ikki appear and take away the Sagittarius gold armor.
In the anime when he steals the armor, he gets to wear the Sagittarius armor (fake mode) for a few moments until Seiya hits him and kicks it off. Because Seiya, Shiryū, Hyōga and Shun recovered four of the nine pieces of armor, Ikki decides to summon the Four most powerful Black Knights (who possess exact replicas of the Pegasus, Dragon, Swan and Andromeda armor respectively) to the he assigns four pieces of armor into custody, keeping the helmet.
The Black Knights
Ikki sends a challenge to the Bronze Saints. The fight will take place on Mount Fuji (in the anime it is in the Cave of the Ten Winds Aokigahara) and everyone must wear a piece of gold armor. The winner of the match would get all the gold armor parts.
After defeating the Knight of the Black Swan, Hyōga is the first to face Ikki. The combat is even even Hyoga resists the Diabolic Illusion, but the advantage leans in favor of Ikki, due to the foreknowledge of Hyōga's techniques (provided by the Black Swan, through his right eye, according to the manga, and through of the Swan insignia, according to the anime). Hyoga is defeated, but in a last ditch effort manages to freeze Ikki's right arm. After their respective fights with their peers, Shiryū and Shun, they find Ikki. Shun does not want Shiryu to die at the hands of his brother, so he knocks him out and offers his life to Ikki, in exchange for him giving up the fight. However Seiya and Hyoga have managed to recover and join the fight again.
Hyoga confronts Ikki again, but this time he manages to return his Diabolic Illusion, with which he begins to have images of the past referring to his training on the Island of Queen Death, the death of Esmeralda, the murder of his master, the confrontation with the four black knights, with Jango and Shaka de Virgo. However, Ikki manages to recover and with a powerful attack, knocks out his opponents, except Seiya, who was protected by the newly assembled Sagittarius gold armor. This time, Seiya faces Ikki, aided by Andromeda's chain, Shiryū's shield and Hyoga's diamond dust, finally managing to defeat the Phoenix.
Manga: Ikki admits his defeat and the wrongness of his behavior. He also reveals to Seiya the origin of the hundred orphans of the Foundation and the paternity of Mitsumasa Kido. The Battle of the Twelve Houses
House of Gemini: While resting inside the volcano on Kanon Island to heal his arm after Hyoga froze it off in their confrontation, Ikki feels the start of the battle in the sanctuary and the problems Shun was in in front of the gentleman of Gemini, so to help him he attacks the mind of the Patriarch of the Sanctuary (Saga) with his cosmos, which interferes with the illusions created by him in the house of Gemini, momentarily saving the Shun. After helping, Ikki returns to recovering from him.

Ikki always keeps attacking Shaka but his techniques have no effect, because even though he has increased his power, Shaka already knows how it works. Even Ikki's Diabolic Illusion has no effect and is reverted to Ikki.
But just as Ikki's techniques don't work on Shaka, Shaka's techniques have no effect on Ikki either, so Shaka decides to prepare himself in a special way to face Ikki, Shaka opens his eyes and displays all his power through of his ultimate technique the Heaven's Treasure. Ikki questions Shaka why, having almost divine power, he decides to serve the evil Patriarch, but Shaka replies that being a Knight of Athena does not limit him to fighting for good or evil, but just as he perceived goodness in his heart on the island of Queen Death, he perceives goodness in the patriarch's heart.
Now that Ikki has no sense left, Shaka was about to stop his heart, but what Shaka didn't count on is that he has fallen squarely into Ikki's trap and the miracle happens, now that Ikki only depends on From his 7th sense, his cosmos burns to the maximum which completely covers the zodiac house, Shaka himself goes so far as to say that Ikki's cosmos already exceeds his power, despite being himself (Shaka), a golden knight. While this effect is happening, Ikki rushes to grab Shaka from behind and set his cosmos on fire to such an extent that they both explode. Shaka tells Ikki that there is no use in a victory in which he is going to lose his life, but Ikki tells him that this is the only way to win against someone with Shaka's power. And it is thus that Shaka is defeated and the bronze knights can continue on, with the apparent sacrifice of Ikki.

Kurumada Suikoden - Hero of Heroes
Iliad Ilias reminds Ikki of his sins against the gods and then uses “god Redaction” to make Esmeralda and Guilty appear behind him. He relives his past on the island of Queen Death. Ikki is filled with hate again. He abruptly pushes Kiku's hand away, and curses Saori because it is thanks to her that Shun must fight, as well as her other siblings. Ikki wants to kill Saori.
The character
Ikki is Shun's older brother and the oldest (both physically and in age) among the five protagonists (in the manga they are all brothers, sons of Mitsumasa Kido); Since childhood, he is revealed as a person with a distant and dark character, the opposite of his kind and emotional brother, while physically he appears as a boy with an athletic physique, with blue eyes and disheveled dark hair (blue in the anime). On his forehead he has a scar that is not always visible because it is covered by his hair and he normally wears a blue t-shirt over red jeans.
Character
Despite his arrogant, complex and lonely character, Ikki actually has a great kindness in his soul and always intervenes to help the weakest and his Knight friends when there is danger. What emotionally distinguishes him from the other bronze knights (especially from his younger brother, whom he is very protective of) is his reaction to emotional events: while others confess and express their pain or affection without shame, also managing to cry in front of him. To the other companions, Ikki always tries to appear insensitive and distant, an attitude that even makes him unpleasant in the eyes of the other knights, especially Seiya. His coldness is also manifested in the Hades saga during his confrontation with Pandora, in which he states that unlike his companions he will have no scruples in attacking a woman if she is his enemy, or when in Next Dimension he tells Shion of Aries that regardless of whether he's on Athena's side or not, if he doesn't let it go, he's going to take on him.
Having spent his entire childhood being a father figure to Shun, Ikki had to learn from the beginning to face difficulties relying only on his own strength without asking for help, in fact, he has even refused his help. brother in two episodes:
- The battle in the sixth house: on this occasion Shun intervened against the Golden Knight giving an order to make threatening (thing resolutely unusual for the boy) however Ikki rejected because he understood what to do to win against the enemy, making the brother promise to move away and not intervene.
- The second episode (presents only in the anime) is that in which Ikki replaces his brother in the battle against Mime, one of the warrior gods of Asgard guided by Hilda of Polaris: immobilized by the ropes of the lira of Mime, Shun intervened against the enemy to prevent the mortal coup of grace to his brother, who also this time tells him not to interfere and to withdraw his chain.
Therefore, he is a complex character, full of inhibitions, lonely, and incredibly proud and independent (in fact, he never appears at the beginning of each adventure, he only appears when the situation becomes more critical) and who often He is often shown to be harsh and cynical (for example, the episode of the anime related to the condition of Shiryu, who was blinded due to the battle against Argol of Perseus: this time Ikki tells Seiya that Shiryu will never regain his sight and that his Laments are useless but immediately after, away from the others, Ikki goes to Seiya telling him not to worry because Shiryu will see again).
In summary, what is at the base of Ikki's difficult character is having touched the dark side, something that in the manga is due -in addition to the pain for the death of Esmeralda- also to the hatred that is felt by your father. During the confrontation with Saga, Ikki intervened in the battle in favor of Seiya and at that moment, finally, the origin of his maladjustment came from a short cry full of rage that he was unable to stop, no matter how hard he tried: in this episode Ikki He does everything to help Seiya take Athena's shield, which represents the only way to save Saori, aware that he will never be allowed to take it because of his past.
On the love side, Ikki's feelings for Esmeralda, the girl who kept him going during training on the island of the death queen, as well as for Pandora, servant of Hades, are pointed out.
Armor
Each armor has unique abilities, but the Phoenix armor is special: it has the unique ability to regenerate from its shards when destroyed in battle, just like the legendary phoenix rising from its ashes. The armor is also equipped with three scale tails that can be used as throwing weapons.
After the battle of the twelve houses, the armor was repaired and resurrected thanks to the blood of the Golden Knights in the anime which is incorrect since in the manga it revives itself according to legend.
In the fight against Thanatos Ikki wears Leo's armor. Obtained initiation on the island of queen death, Ikki is called to the sanctuary by the patriarch (actually Gemini Saga), who seems to have taught him the art of manipulating thought and creating illusions: this is also confirmed in the anime when Ikki intervened to save Shun during the confrontation with the ghost of Gemini in the third house, telepathically interrupting Saga's influence and saving his brother from another dimension; at that moment saga says: "How dare you?! Did you forget that I was the one who taught you the subtle art of manipulating the mind?". During the confrontation in the chamber of the patriarch Ikki intervened to prevent the death of Seiya, exhausted by Saga's blows; he uses the Other Dimension, but Ikki returns without any apparent difficulty stating: "what do you want your other dimension to be for me, I come from the island of queen death, a place that you have made hell and lifeless ? What do you want it to be for me?".
It is important to keep one thing in mind, however: it would be plausible that Kurumada chose Leo's armor for Ikki if one considers that the knight was born right under the sign of Leo and that, therefore, he is according to his sign, would be the most suitable Gold Armor.
Constellation and Sign
Ikki is protected and chosen by the constellation of the Phoenix; The astronomical figure of the phoenix is not of classical origin since it was introduced by Danish navigators, so it does not have an associated myth. Kurumada chose, to represent the animal and the associated myth, the usual mix of cultures: The Phoenix was known almost everywhere, even to the Arabs who made it famous by the Arabic epithet phoenix. At the level of Ikki's behavior, withdrawn for a few periods to repair his armor or simply to be alone, he recalls the Arabian phoenix, who decided to let himself be burned by the sun in order to be reborn more powerful. Aesthetically, on the contrary, as it appears at least in manga and anime, Kurumada has very significantly recovered the oriental phoenix of Chinese and Japanese matrix, more imaginative and distant from the Arabic one that is very reminiscent of an eagle: the long tail also present in the The armor, whose Bronze feathers are also thrown by the user, is identical to that present in the legendary creatures present in Japanese temples, in turn dealing with the Chinese fenghuang.
Since there are no other myths associated with the phoenix, other than its immortality and wonderful song, the author chose to associate Ikki with fiery blows due to the legendary bird's ability to burn and be reborn. The Phantom Phoenix Fist is out completely and is to further connect with Ikki's training place.
Techniques
- Phoenix Genmaken (魔の.。 Signature Fénix’s Phantom Finger: Ikki hits the opponent’s brain by provoking nightmares and illusions that weaken the mind and body, making it weaker; this technique can also paralyse the opponent or penetrate into the background of the enemy’s mind, bringing to light memories and secrets. On the sleeve it is specified that this technique damages the opponent's nervous system and that it is just as strong as the Genrō maō-Ken of the Gemini Knights.
- HoYoku TenSho (.に.) Phoenix Wings: Ikki releases a strong wind that hits the opponent, and then hits him with one or more powerful punches with the fist, which takes the form of a phoenix of fire. In the taizen it is indicated that Ikki improves this blow over and over, so the technique becomes more and more powerful duel after mourning. On the sleeve it shows how this attack is as powerful as to kill even a group of opponents of a single blow (such as Black Knights or with the spectra) and it is further claimed that this is a deadly technique that normally kills the first impact on anyone who receives it.
- Fénix Finger (Phoenix no ken): Ikki hits the enemy with a very powerful and fast fist. This skill is only present on the sleeve.
Other Skills
As well as his armor and the mythological creature it represents, Ikki can resurrect when killed by an enemy:
- The Phoenix Knight is given for death on several occasions, but always returns to life without any apparent difficulty.
- Ikki has the ability to reach anywhere in the universe thanks to the Hoyoku Tenshou: as a testimony of it appears directly in the sixth house of Virgo (of which he also flees in an attempt to evade the cosmos of Shaka), in the kingdom of Poseidon and in the underworld without any difficulty, he manages to return from the other dimension of Saga and the Golden Triangle of Kanon and in Next Dimension.
- As seen in Next Dimension, Ikki, burning his cosmos, can produce true flames that incinerate everything they come into contact with.
