Perrefitte
Perrefitte (formerly German Pfeffert and Beffert) is a Swiss commune in the canton of Bern, located in the administrative district of the Bernese Jura.. It borders to the north with the communes of Haute-Sorne (JU) and Moutier, with which it also borders to the east, to the south with Champoz, and to the west with Petit-Val.
With an area of 8.67 km², it has a population of approximately 500 inhabitants. 84% of them speak French, and the rest German, the language mostly spoken in the canton.
History
The city takes its name from the Latin petra ficta (formed stone). Perrefitte is mentioned for the first time in 1295 under the name Pierefite. Later it was called Perefiten, Pierefetteau and Pierrefette. Until the end of the 18th century, the town was subordinate to the provostdom of Moutier-Grandval. Perrefitte belonged to France between 1797 and 1815, until 1800 within the department of Mont-Terrible, and from there to the Upper Rhine. After the Congress of Vienna it became part of Switzerland. Until December 31, 2009 located in the Moutier district.
