Pere bascompte

Pere Bascompte Carbonell (Manresa, 1957) was one of the founders and first militants of the organization Terra Lliure (TLL).

Political career

He began his political career in 1975, joining a Manresa youth association, created by members of the Partit Socialista d"Alliberament Nacional. From there he went into the trade union world, militating in Workers' Commissions, then in hiding.In May 1981, he participated in the kidnapping of journalist Federico Jiménez Losantos. At that time, Losantos was a commentator close to socialism, who had signed a manifesto demanding the right to be taught in Spanish in Catalonia. In the early morning of May 21, 1981, Pere Bascompte Carbonell tied Federico Jiménez Losantos to a tree, shot him in the knee and left, leaving him tied up and with blood flowing. Jiménez Losantos has suffered from a visible limp ever since.

He was arrested in France in 1985 and again on January 11, 1989 near Perpignan, the city where he resided. Subsequently, imprisoned in the French prison of Toulouse-Languedoc, he participated in the June 1991 negotiations with Àngel Colom and Josep Lluís Carod-Rovira for the dissolution of the terrorist organization, which would lead to his entry and that of other Terra militants.
