History
Its foundation dates back to the repopulation carried out by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, being integrated into the quarter of Cantalberque of the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes, within the Kingdom of León, then called Peidrosielo. It belonged to the Cuarto del Río Almar, since the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes was divided into four parts during the repopulation. This region suffered the Castilian looting in 1196 and King Alfonso IX favored its recovery, hence these dates are considered to date the beginning of the construction of the Church of San Pedro. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Pedrosillo de Alba was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region, forming part of the judicial district of Alba de Tormes until its disappearance and its integration into that of Salamanca.
Demographics
The emigration phenomenon of the mid-s. XX that takes place in the Spanish rural environment, is strongly reflected in the departure of Pedrosillanos who essentially take Salamanca, the Basque Country and Madrid as their destination. They also march to Switzerland and Germany in the 1960s. Before these two waves of emigration, at the beginning of the s. XX was also notable the one that had America as its destination. Pedrosillanos, together with people from the neighboring towns of Alaraz and Santiago de la Puebla, went to the United States to work in California or in the steel industry in Youngstown (Ohio). According to the municipal register prepared by the INE in 2016, the municipality of Pedrosillo de Alba has a population of 142 inhabitants.
