Paper dome
The Paper Dome is a chapel designed by the Japanese architect Shigeru Ban to provide a temple to various victims of the Great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake of 1995. Initially it was built in Japan by volunteers in only 5 weeks, without heavy machinery and at low cost. It later found its permanent home in Puli, Nantou County (Taiwan), the epicenter of the 1999 Chichi earthquake.
Features
The base is 10×15 meters. The center is made up of an oval made of 58 paper tubes 5 m long and 33 cm in diameter each, with capacity for 80 chairs. Unlike La casa de papel, in the church the tubes are separated from each other. As an additional benefit, the materials used were fully recyclable. However, the community has decided to keep the church as a symbol.
