The national flag of Pakistan was designed by Amir-ud-Din Khidwai based on the flag created in 1906 for the Indian Muslim League. It was adopted on August 11, 1947, three days before the proclamation of independence.

The Pakistani flag is a green cloth that represents Islam, with a vertical white stripe located on the edge closest to the flagpole as a symbol of the country's non-Muslim minorities. In the center of the green space, there is a white waning moon and a five-pointed star Venus of the same color. The crescent (a well-known Islamic symbol) represents progress, and the star, light and knowledge.

The national flag of Pakistan is known in Urdu as “Sabz Hilali Parcham”, which means “green crescent flag”.

Description

On the flag we find a decreasing moon and a star on a green background, both are symbols of Islam and pan-Arabism. This composition is also found on the flag of Algeria, the flag of Mauritania, the Flag of the Maldives, etc. The crescent moon symbolizes progress and the star knowledge.

The white band on the left occupies a quarter of the flag and symbolizes the other minorities in the country.
