The p (uppercase P, noun pe, plural pes) is the seventeenth letter and the thirteenth consonant of the Spanish alphabet, and the sixteenth letter of the basic Latin alphabet.

In Spanish it represents an obstruent, plosive, bilabial and voiceless consonant.

This letter stands for the chemical element phosphorus.

History

Corresponds to the letter P of the Latin or Roman alphabet, which took the angular line pattern from the Greek, and only in the I closed forms appear. The Visigothic capital P had the shape of the Roman capital letter. The Gothic P of the XIII century begins to be written with a single continuous stroke.
