An overdose is an excessive dose of a medication or an addictive substance. The administration of any drug in a higher than prescribed or usual dose can cause serious effects, such as intoxication, loss of consciousness, a collapse of the nervous system and, ultimately, death.

Also warn that, speaking of drugs, it can be produced for a greater purity in the same quantity.

Etiology

From left to right, lethal doses of heroin, carphentanyl and fentanyl respectively, according to the United States Drug Control Administration. In recent years, an opioid crisis has been unleashed in the United States.

Negligent prescription and, in particular, self-medication, can lead to an overdose. Also the interaction or combination of different substances (for example and above all, with alcoholic beverages) can generate the multiplication of their effects and, with it, the overdose. Any of the situations mentioned can occur by voluntary decision of the person, in cases of suicide, or by accident.
