Olorun is one of the manifestations of the supreme God of the Yoruba religion Olodumare. Olorun etymologically means òlò, Lord, and Òrún, sky; that is, Lord of heaven or the Hereafter.

The Deity

From the energy of this supreme God the Ìrúnmalé arose, subdivided into Changó (male energies) and Oggun (female energies). Said Ìrúnmalé are emanations of this supreme God and his mission is to maintain universal balance.

Offerings and dances

Olorun has no cult or temple of its own. The mention of his name is restricted to the human being, being the Ìrunmalé the intermediaries between him and men. Through the sun, he offers himself to her in the nangareo, realizing that an itá is going to be made on earth or when an Iyawó is born.
