Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) is an American professional wrestling promotion company located in Louisville, Kentucky, United States. The OVW is a recognized institution for the development of wrestlers.

History

Ohio Valley Wrestling was formed in 1997, as an affiliate promotion in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), then known as NWA-OVW. However, it broke up in 2000, soon becoming development territory of the World Wrestling Federation/Entertainment (WWF/WWE). Jim Cornette was OVW's chief creative officer and majority investor, but resigned under pressure from WWE for slapping OVW wrestling student and young talent Anthony Carelli. He was replaced by Paul Heyman, who was creative. from OVW until he was given the position of ECW brand creative. Greg Gagne was supposed to replace Heyman, but his knowledge of the company was limited and they gave the job to Al Snow and Danny Davis.

In 2007, Cornette sold his share of the company to Davis. On February 7, 2008, WWE announced that its relationship with OVW had ended, moving all of its talent to Florida Championship Wrestling. However, On September 23, 2009, OVW announced that WWE manager John Laurinaitis had visited and evaluated OVW talent stating that WWE "would take a much more active role in recruiting OVW talent";. Between 2008 and 2009, both companies maintained a close relationship despite the end of their professional relationship two years ago.

On September 8, 2010, Danny Davis announced that Jim Cornette would return to the company as chief creative officer. Cornette, who was also an Executive Producer for Ring of Honor, announced upon his return that he will handle a talent exchange between the two companies.

On November 7, 2011, it was announced that OVW and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) had reached an agreement for OVW to become TNA's developmental territory. Director of Labor Relations Al Snow, made his return to OVW as a creative replacing Cornette. Additionally, TNA wrestler Doug Williams was assigned as OVW's trainer until his departure in 2013. However, the relationship between the two companies ended on November 2, 2013.
