In the Gregorian calendar, November is the eleventh and penultimate month of the year and has 30 days. Its name derives from novem ('nine', in Latin), for having been the ninth month of the Roman calendar. It kept its name "ninth" even when months were added to the year.

In Japan and some Eastern countries it is called the Month of Charity.

Iconography

In the beginning, November was represented as a priest of the goddess Isis dressed in a linen tunic with a bald head and leaning on an altar on which was the head of a kid, an animal that was sacrificed to the goddess in the month of november.[citation needed]

The moderns represent it in the form of a character dressed in a dry leaf with one hand resting on the sign of Sagittarius and the other holding a cornucopia, from which certain roots emerge, the last present that the earth offers us.
