North American Academy of the Spanish Language

The American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE) is an American institution that brings together a group of academics and experts in the use of the Spanish language in the United States. Established in New York on November 5, 1973, it was founded, among others, by Tomás Navarro Tomás, who had been director of the National Library of Spain and was in exile in the United States. The North American Academy was accepted into the Association of Spanish Language Academies in 1980, thus becoming part of the institutions governed by the Royal Spanish Academy. The academy publishes literary and analytical works and grants literary awards to recognize and promote the Use and evolution of the Spanish language in the United States.

It is made up of 1 honorary member, 36 full members, 100 correspondents and 100 collaborators.

ANLE has regional offices in California, Florida, Indiana, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington D.C. and neighboring states.
