Nihon Ki-in
The Nihon Ki-in (日本棋院), also known as the Japan Go Association, is the main organizer of Go in Japan, overseeing the professional Japanese system. and issuing diplomas to dan amateurs. It is located in Tokyo: 7-2, Gobancho (五番町), Chiyoda-ku (千代田区), Tokyo (東京), 102-8668. The other major go association in Japan is the Kansai Ki-In.
The association was created in 1924. Its innovations include the oteai promotion system, time limits on professional matches, and the start of issuing diplomas to strong amateur players to confirm their rank.
The first president of the association was Makino Nobuaki a great patron, with Okura Kishichiro as vice president. The vast majority of professionals at the time joined the young organization except for the Inoue faction in Osaka and Nozawa Chikucho. A group called Kiseisha was created shortly after Nihon Ki-In was formed, but most of the players involved returned to the association soon after.
The so-called insei (院生) who are among the best players and students of go and who therefore have the objective of reaching the level of professionals, also enter here.
