Neptuno is a railway station that is part of the Santiago de Chile Metro network. It is in an open-air trench, between the San Pablo and Pajaritos stations on Line 1, in the Lo Prado commune. Because one of the network's workshops is located at the station, it is common to see trains leaving or entering from the depots to begin passenger service.

The station was closed between October 18, 2019 and July 25, 2020 due to the damage that occurred on the line as a result of the protests caused by the increase in public transport fares.

Features and environment

It presents a moderate-low flow of passengers, is in a purely residential sector and does not present great attractions. The stop has the main function of transporting the inhabitants of the area to the center of Santiago. The station has an average daily flow of 9,566 passengers.

Etymological origin

Its name comes from Avenida Neptuno, which runs parallel to the railway line. The name of this avenue remembers Neptune, god of the sea according to Roman mythology. At the time when the Santiago Metro used iconography to identify its stations, it alluded to the Latin god through a trident with two fish.
