Nayim
Mohamed Alí Amar, known as Nayim (Ceuta, Spain, November 5, 1966), is a Spanish former soccer player. He played as a midfielder.
Career as a player
He began his career as a professional in the youth ranks of FC Barcelona, promoted by the then coach of the Catalan team Terry Venables. He was skilled, with excellent technique but undisciplined at times. He managed to be part of the U-21 national team on several occasions and became a member of the Barça first team, with which he had already debuted the previous campaign, in the 1987-1988 season, although he played very few games.
He signed for Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League the following year, where he soon became a starter and with the support of the English fans, due to his excellent performances against the London team's great rival team, Arsenal. He remained in the British squad for almost five seasons.
He signed for Real Zaragoza at the end of the 1992-1993 season. With this club he achieved his greatest successes as a footballer. However, he did not become a starter until some time later, due to the exceptional form of José Aurelio Gay. In 1994 he won the Spanish Copa del Rey against Celta de Vigo in a penalty shootout. But his greatest feat as a footballer was achieved on May 10, 1995, in Paris, where he became champion of the European Cup Winners' Cup. With just 10 seconds left until the end of extra time and with the score tied at 1, he once again starred in the role of & # 34; black beast & # 34; of Arsenal and scored the decisive goal with a parabola from 49 meters. It was a spectacular goal, described in some media as the best goal ever scored in a final.
However, this was the highlight of his career, since that same summer, the club sold Esnáider, one of its great stars, and other of its players reached the twilight of their careers, with which the team saw a regeneration. In the 95-96 season he was barely able to score a single goal in Anoeta and was part of the group of eternal glories that the La Romareda team left, sadly, through the back door: (Pardeza, Package Higuera, Cedrún, Belsué, Cáceres, Poyet, etc.)
His last days as a soccer player were spent at Logroñés, which alternated his stay in the Spanish First and Second divisions for a few years.
After withdrawal
Once he hung up his boots, Nayim was appointed sports advisor to the Autonomous Government of Ceuta, then chaired by the GIL.
Later, he began to work as a second coach, first with Carlos Terrazas and then with Ramón María Calderé, before being named director of the AD Ceuta football school.
On December 27, 2009, his signing as assistant coach of Real Zaragoza was announced.
In May 2016, it is confirmed that he will be the sports director of the A.D. Ceuta F.C. chosen by Luhay Hamido, former Big Brother contestant.
In 2019 he joined the "Directo Gol" table as a commentator. on the sports channel GOL TV.
Anecdotes
In 2006, the Zaragoza town of Trasmoz was the first to dedicate one of its streets to the goal scored by Nayim in the final of the 1995 European Cup Winners' Cup.
Later, in 2009, Tres de Agosto Street in Zaragoza was renamed Mohamed Ali Amar Nayim Street.
