National Empanada Festival

The Empanada Festival is a gastronomic and musical event that takes place annually in the month of September in the city of Famaillá, on the "Simeon Nieva" property.; (in 2018 the Simeon Nieva stage was demolished and in compensation for that event the HCD of Famaillá made an ordinance changing the name of the festival site to Predio Simeon Nieva), 30 km from San Miguel de Tucumán, in Argentina. In the event, empanadas from the area are made, becoming called "The empanada route".

History

The event, which has been held since 1979 and in which, in addition to electing the National Queen of the Empanada, prominent personalities from culture, sports and various professions are distinguished with the Golden Empanada, it has a craft and commercial fair with one hundred and fifty stands attended by different social institutions.

The National Empanada Festival culminates with the election of the National Empanada Champion, and every ten years it adds the coronation of a Champion of Champions

Headquarters

Famaillá, headquarters of the celebration, is the capital city of the department of the same name, in the center of the province of Tucumán. Declared the National Capital of the Empanada, this town records a history long before the arrival of the white man.
