National Conservatory of Music (Argentina)
The National Conservatory of Music was an Argentine federal organization whose headquarters were located at the intersection of Callao and Las Heras avenues, in the city of Buenos Aires. It was founded by the composer Carlos López Buchardo in 1924 and in 1982 it moved to its headquarters at Avenida Córdoba 2445.
The origin of the “Buenos Aires City Music Conservatory” dates back to 1989, when the Ministry of Education and Justice issued Resolution 643/89 dividing the “Carlos López Buchardo National Music Conservatory” into two establishments:
- National School of Music (initial cycle and first cycle)
- Higher National Conservatory of Music (Middle Cycle and Higher Cycle), both with independent administrative structures.
With Law 24,049, promulgated on January 2, 1992, the Middle Cycle of said Conservatory is transferred to the Municipality of the City of Buenos Aires. [1]. The Higher Cycle of the Institution remained in the orbit of the National Ministry of Culture and Education.
In recent years, administratively and hierarchically, it was enrolled in the Argentine university system (IUNA). Its headquarters are located at Avenida Córdoba 2445, federal capital. Then the Carlos López Buchardo Ex.-National Conservatory of Music and Performing Arts, which was divided in two by Executive Decree passing a part to the City of Buenos Aires and taking the name of the Superior Conservatory of Music of the City of Buenos Aires & #34;Astor Piazzolla” (Sarmiento 3401, Almagro, CABA).- The latter takes the initial level -called Musical Initiation and formed by two years of studies- and the so-called First Cycle or Elementary Cycle -constituted by the following four years of studies and the first one stays with the Superior cycles, of Art, located in Av. Córdoba 2445.-
