The Chilean National Award for Applied Sciences and Technology was created in 1992 as one of the replacements for the former National Science Award under Law No. 19,169. The other two awards in the same field are: Exact Sciences and Natural Sciences.
It is part of the Chilean National Awards.
Jury
The jury is made up of the Minister of Education, the last recipient of this award, two academics assigned by the Council of Rectors and the president of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research.
The Prize
The prize consists of:
- A diploma,
- An economic award amounting to $6,562,457 Chilean pesos, adjusted every year, starting in 1993, according to the CPI of the previous year, and
- A monthly vitality pension equivalent to 20 UTM January of the corresponding year, which remains constant for the rest of the year.
