Naoko Takeuchi (武内直子 Takeuchi Naoko?) (Kōfu, Yamanashi Prefecture, March 15, 1967) is a Japanese mangaka, recognized for creating the Sailor Moon series, which was very successful in the 90s.

Biography

His father's name is Kenji and his mother is Ikuko, and he also has a younger brother named Shingo.

Having a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry from Keiō University, Naoko began her career as a cartoonist and cartoonist without any artistic training, and she has stated on more than one occasion that the style of Leiji Matsumoto, creator of works like "Captain Harlock" and "Galaxy Express 999".

She is married to Yoshihiro Togashi, creator of Hunter x Hunter and Yu Yu Hakusho.

Style

The type of shoujo that Naoko draws is often considered ethereal, dreamlike. To achieve this effect, the author uses and abuses light inking, with very fine strokes, sometimes even ignoring the line and delimiting the drawing with the outline of the plot. An example of what is stipulated is the transformations of the Sailors, being her an expert in it.

Works

Takeuchi has loved drawing since he was very young, during high school he joined the drawing and astronomy club. At the age of 18 he made his manga debut with "Yume ja Nai no ne" for which he received the 2nd Nakayoshi Comic Award for Newcomers. In 1986, while studying pharmacy at university, she debuted as a comic creator with "Love Call" and for the work she received the Nakayoshi New Mangaka Award and would be published in Nakayoshi Deluxe.

After completing "The Cherry Project", Takeuchi sought to write a manga about girls with magical powers for Kodansha's magazine Run-Run. Her editor, Osa-P suggested that she dress them up in typical Japanese school sailor suits. "Codename wa Sailor V" would be the result in August 1991, and due to its enormous popularity, Toei Animation wanted to make an anime with the story, they proposed to create the manga as the story was seen simultaneously in the anime. Takeuchi decided to create a new manga for the anime, resulting in Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, first published by Nakayoshi in 1992.
