Najadaceae is a family of liliopsida of the order Najadales.

In some systems it is included in the family Hydrocharitaceae.

Najadaceae is a family of monocotyledonous plants. In the traditional classification (1981) that includes 50 species of the genus of the Najas.

They are aquatic herbaceous, submerged in cold to tropical regions.

In the APG II phylogenetic classification (2003) and the APG III phylogenetic classification (2009) this family does not exist: the plants of this family are incorporated into the Hydrocharitaceae.

Features

  • Annual herbs, aquatics, submerged, dulciacuícolas.
  • Blades opposite or tender, linear or cyntiform, dented, with pod.
  • Unisexual, small, solitary or glomerular flowers; male bipartite tubular perianto and with a stamen; female acclaimers and unilocular ovary.
  • Fruits in aquenio.
  • They include about 10 species, which are characteristic of warm and temperate areas.
