Mythography is the study of ancient myths and legends that make up mythologies; a mythographer could be said to be a "myth collector."

According to the writer Carlos García Gual, myth is a traditional story that refers to the memorable and exemplary performance of some extraordinary characters in a prestigious and distant time.
