My uncle benjamin
My Uncle Benjamin (French: Mon oncle Benjamin!) is a French film directed by Édouard Molinaro. There is another version of the film titled "Don't worry" (in French, Ne Goryuy!) which was directed by Georgian Georgi Daneliya. Both films are based on a graphic novel by Claude Tiller, from the years 1842.
Plot
1750, the time of King Louis XV. Benjamin (Jacques Brel) is in love with the young Manette (Claude Jade), the innkeeper's daughter, but the beauty does not want to give in to the young doctor's intentions except with a marriage certificate in her hands. Manette is in love with him, but refuses to give him her virginity if he doesn't marry her first. An incident with the Marquis de Cambyse (Bernard Blier) sends Benjamin to prison, but his young friend the Vicomte de Pont-Cassé (Bernard Alane) gets King Louis XV to exchange his prison sentence for banishment. The final scene shows us Benjamin, his adoptive nephew Gaspar (Dominique de Keuchel) and his lover Manette on her way to exile. But first, they make a stop near a river and, while the boy fishes for lunch, the couple decides to make use of Manette's “capital” (his virginity of hers) without first having gone through the church.
Review
Molinaro's film remains incredibly fresh, with very agile editing, with famous actors Jacques Brel and Claude Jade, with excellent music (by François Rauber and Jacques Brel himself) and charming, sparkling performances, very apt. gender tone. Jacques Brel and Claude Jade stands out for their spontaneity and sympathy. He is the classic ugly but irresistible hunk often found in French cinema.
