Mount Ida (Crete)
Mount Ida or Cretan Ida, as opposed to Mount Ida of Turkey (or Phrygian Ida), present-day Mount Psiloritis (Modern Greek Ψηλωρείτης "high mountain& #34;) stands in the Amari Valley, in the center of the Greek island of Crete. It is the highest peak of the island, with a height of 2456 m s. no. m.. The Nida plateau and the Ruva forest lie on its eastern slope. The University of Crete observatory is located on the Skinakas secondary peak. Its imposing massif occupies the central part of the island, in the territories of the prefectures of Heraklion and Rethymno.
Mythology
According to Greek mythology, in a cave (locally called Ideon Antron) on the north slope of this mountain Zeus was born. Rhea, his mother, hid him there to protect him from his father Cronus from him, since he devoured his children.
