Monterrey metropolitan area
The Metropolitan Zone of Monterrey (popularly just Monterrey, abbreviated ZMM) is the metropolitan area made up of the Mexican city of Monterrey, its municipality of the same name, and twelve other municipalities in the state of Nuevo León. According to the 2020 Census carried out by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, it is the 2nd most populous metropolitan area in Mexico with 5,046,743 and the second with the largest territorial extension (there is no data on the urbanized area), it is also the 81st largest area metropolitan of the world
Municipalities that make up the metropolitan area
The metropolitan area is made up of thirteen municipalities, listed along with their population according to the final data of the 2020 census:
Peripheral Region: This region forms a ring that envelops the metropolitan area and due to the high growth of the urban stain of Monterrey, it has had a growth of 25 ha per week from 2000 to 2006. That is, from 2000 to date, the urban stain has increased 8,847 ha, which represents approximately the total surface of San Nicolás de los Garza. Three of these municipalities (Cadereyta Jiménez, Salinas Victoria and Santiago) were integrated in 2010 in the Monterrey Metropolitan Zone. EconomyOf the population of the Metropolitan Zone of Monterrey there are 1 314 638 inhabitants and the total production is estimated at 1 254 493 911 thousand pesos. The service sector has the largest number of staff employed with 41.5% of the total. Manufacturing is second in percentage of the total number of people employed with 26.0%.
