Mitrephora is a genus of plants in the family Annonaceae, order Magnoliales, subclass Magnólidas, subdivision Magnoliophytina, division Spermatophyta.

Distribution

It comprises about 40 species of small trees and shrubs that can be found in tropical Asia and northern Australia and Oceania. Mitrephora's range extends from China in the north to Queensland in the south. This genus is abundant in India and Southeast Asia, with its greatest diversity in the Philippines.

Description

They are trees that reach a size of 40 meters in height. With short petiole; Leaf-blade venation arcuate loop near margin, secondary veins 4-24 on each side of midvein. Terminal inflorescence of flowers, leaves opposite, or extra-axillary, solitary or in cymes; rachis sympodial simple or branched, internodes short or long. Bisexual flowers. Pedicel short or long, with basal bracts and submedian bracteoles. Sepals 3, valvate, basally connate ±. Petals 6, in 2 whorls, free, with each whorl valvate; outer petals usually smaller than inner petals, without a basal claw; inner petals claw-based, apically connivent to form a mitriform dome. Stamens many; wedge-shaped anthers. Sessile or stipitate monocarp fruits, globose, obovoid or cylindrical, sometimes longitudinally grooved, smooth or rarely warty.

Taxonomy

The genus was described by Hook.f. & Thomson and published in Flora Indica: being a systematic account of the plants.. 112. 1855.
