Missile Command is a game developed by Atari in 1980, in which the invasion of terrestrial cities is simulated, and a series of missile turrets must stop the the invaders.

Game dynamics

These turrets had an ammunition limit and also the scope could only target one spot at a time, making it impossible for the user to hit in a timely manner.

The invaders' defenses were

  • Shoot from their ships their rays to the cities.
  • Send satellites that also threw rays.
  • Drop at an extraordinary speed.

If a turret was shot, it would be disabled for a period of time, becoming usable after that time had elapsed.

Every five levels, a city that was destroyed could be restored, and prizes were awarded for the amount of ammunition left after defending the cities.
