Miranda state flag
The flag of the Miranda state is the one approved in the reform of the Symbols Law by the Legislative Council of the Miranda State (Regional Parliament) in the month of July 2006.
Meaning of colors
The color black represented the black race that fought alongside Miranda, today it represents the same thing. The color red represented the 'brown' race; that is, the mulattos that emerged after colonization (whites with blacks). These occupied the region of the province of Caracas. Today, it represents the blood shed in the independence struggle. The color yellow, for its part, for Francisco de Miranda meant a tribute to the indigenous people who inhabited the region of Venezuela. Today it means the gain from the struggle that was obtained in the recovery of Venezuelan territory from the Spanish yoke.
History
This flag arises as a result of the approval of the new Regional Constitution, the flag, the shield and the official name of the State changed, since the reform of the Symbols Law was also carried out by the State Legislative Council in 2006.
The president of the Legislative Council, Gleen Emilio Rivas, reported that the changes made to the symbols seek to restore the identity of the Mirandino people. In the case of the new flag, it has three horizontal stripes with the colors black, yellow and red, as a tribute to the military flag that Francisco de Miranda designed 200 years ago called "Military Flag of Miranda" This was used as the official banner of the projected new Army. The flag is cited in the Document Catalog of the General Archive of the Indies in Seville. As established, the flag consisted of 3 equal stripes of the colors black, red and yellow representative of the 3 ethnic groups that made up the country, blacks, browns and Indians and could have been designed in 1800. The flag has a proportion of 9 to 14 wide to long, it is larger than the flag of Germany, whose proportion is 3 to 5 wide to long respectively, but the stars and the sun were added to avoid any confusion with the German flag.
He highlighted that in the black upper part, the black race is represented, which makes up the majority ethnic group located in the Barlovento Subregion. On the left side of this strip, there is also a rising sun as a reference to the star that warms the windward coasts and within it, two branches with cocoa fruits. Below these it bears the inscription Liberty or Death.
In the red central part, the pardos (a cross between whites and blacks) are represented, distributed throughout the territory of what was then known as the Province of Caracas, including Barlovento, the coastal areas and the central valleys. Six white stars are arranged, representing the subregions: Altos Mirandinos, Valles del Tuy, Metropolitan Area, Guarenas-Guatire (twin stars) and Barlovento. The lower strip, yellow, pays tribute to the indigenous population.
Previous flag
The previous flag of the Miranda State is not the first that the state had, it was created in 1995 and was the product of a contest that was held in some schools. It is made up of two horizontal stripes of equal size, the colors of the pavilion are blue, green and yellow. The first symbolizes the Tuy River basin; Green represents the fertile lands of the Mirandina geography and its extensive agricultural resources; and the yellow in its center, with the twelve rays, means the Sun that bathes the beaches of Barlovento all year round. The Cacao branches, located on the sides of the flag, reflect the agricultural vocation of the entity, through the state product of the 19th century< /span> in the Barlovento area, which is still recognized today as the best in the world in chocolate production.
