Miquel Barcelo Garcia
Miquel Barceló García (Mataró, November 30, 1948 – November 23, 2021) was a Spanish engineer, editor, translator and writer, specialized in the science fiction genre.
As a publisher, his career was linked to Ediciones B, where he directed the Nova collection, specializing in science fiction stories and novels. On many occasions, Barceló included an introductory article in the books that he edited in this collection.
Biography
Born in Mataró, Spain, in 1948. He was a Doctor of Computer Science, an Aeronautical Engineer and a graduate in Nuclear Energy.
He lived in Sant Cugat del Valles. She directed and coordinated the doctoral program on sustainability, technology and humanism at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He was also known for his monthly column for the specialized ICT magazine for companies and Public Administrations Byte TI or for his contributions to various periodicals on astronomy and artificial intelligence.
Apart from the literary world, he worked as a professor at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, so it is no coincidence that this institution annually awards the UPC prize, the most important prize in Spanish science fiction, an award that was created thanks to his impulse and that from the 2022 edition will bear his name.
