Millimeter
The millimeter (symbol mm) is a unit of length. It is the third submultiple of the meter and therefore, it is equivalent to one thousandth of it.
- 1 mm = 10−3 m = 0.001 m
Uses
Mechanical manufacturing
In mechanical manufacturing, the construction drawings are dimensioned in millimeters, and the tolerance of the dimensions are expressed in tenths, hundredths or thousandths of a millimeter.
Weapon ammunition
The millimeter is used as a measure of size for bullets, missiles, and other projectiles, measured in terms of their diameters or calibers.
Rainfall
The millimeter is the unit of measurement used in meteorology for precipitation. It represents the thickness in millimeters of the layer of water accumulated on a horizontal ground by one or several precipitations, if there was no infiltration or evaporation and if the precipitations that fall in solid form were found to be molten. The volumetric equivalent of one millimeter of precipitation is one liter per square meter.
