A military academy is an educational institution of a military nature. Its exact definition depends on the country. There are three types of military academies: polytechnic, university, and those that serve only to prepare cadets for officers in the armed forces of a State. Most countries have only the latter, and in some, such as Chile, they are more appropriately often referred to as a military school, since the term academy is generally reserved for other spheres of culture..

The oldest active military academy in the world, the Artillery Academy of Segovia (Spain), was founded as a Royal College on May 16, 1764, in the reign of Carlos III of Spain in the Alcazar of Segovia. This academy has been training artillery officers and NCOs of the Spanish Army ever since.

Military academies provide military instruction, which may be voluntary or mandatory. The instruction is done before any person receives authorization to operate the technical equipment or on the battlefield, to start the military instruction a physical examination must be passed. Reintegration

Reinduction is an important aspect of induction of a civilian into the military. Reintegration is a sociological concept related to mental and emotional processes that aim to withstand any situation that the soldier faces. A successful reinsertion is considered when an individual's behavior and emotions have been changed.

One of the biggest examples of reintegration is that new army recruits are subjected to to "forge" its military character. Another example is the reverse process, in which the military must re-adjust to civilian life.

Resocialization from the life of a combat soldier to a member of civil society is often difficult because that soldier had many military experiences. In the transition from civilian to soldier, the individual is trained to only follow the orders of his superiors, something that is not strictly followed in civil society.
